There is a lot of misconception about this. Most computers can adjust up to about 15% where the CAI without a tune is only giving you a 3% change on a V6. Even if you did exceed the 15% the check engine light would come on first. Adding the CAI without tune is no different that having a dirty air filter for the computer, it will adjust mixture.
I'm getting about 2-3mpg more on the highway, car runs way better with the k&n cai that stock.
If you had a non-computer car with carb then I would be worried about running lean.
Running lean is a big issue even with modern cars. The computer will not adjust for the CAI. This is no misconception. Now unless you are talking about those none tuner required CAI, then the computer will handle if the rest of the car is stock. However, quite a few people who had those cai and duals got codes, which a tuner fixed.

Never suggested running a tune required CAI without a tune. My point was that a no tune required CAI will not damage the engine. The computer will indeed adjust for the change from the CAI same as it adjusts for a dirty air filter.
The MAF will tell the computer how much air is entering the engine and the oxygen sensors will tell the computer how rich or lean the engine is running.

Well yeah that it will. But if the car is further moded it might cause problems. BBK said so themselves.

Lots of good info thanks alot now I am once again thinking of getting one. I do like how it looks and you never have to replace a filter and it suspose to give you 7.5 horsepower. I just dont want to throw any codes my only worry.
I have not thrown any codes, and I have driven it aggressively and passively.

Hmm probally best to wait. I have had the car bout a month and spent way too much money anyways. I got ford racing dual exhaust $700 and $160 to install. I got the black fuel door $90 and $37 to install yes I paid to have it installed lol. I got the blackout magnetic back panel $40 the shorty antenna $20 the third brake light decal $10 and today just installed my sequential taillights actually did that myself $140.
About $1200 for alot of improvement not too bad I guess but probally should have just bought the GT.

Its good to hear from someone who has a CAI w/out a tune because thats what I want. I think the K&N looks better just my prefrence but if you can notice a pwer diffrence thats great maybe I will end up getting one afterall. You have had no mechanical problems with it so far?
The BBK CAI has been working great for me. After I added dual exhausts I lost some low end torque (expected, as there's reduced exhaust velocity at lower revs). First I dropped in a K&N replacement filter, but it didn't add much for me. Then I ordered the BBK CAI, installed it, and now the Stang runs like a charm.
But the problem was I liked the looks of the BBK under the hood, so I was compelled to add some more underhood item$. The raw strut towers always looked unfinished, as did the sides of the radiator cover. Now it all looks pretty good under the hood.
I installed K&N CAI w/o a tune in my 07' 2 years ago and haven't had any problems, codes etc. Installed SCT X3 87 octane tune 2 months ago which made a noticeable difference in performance still no problems, codes etc. Pleased with combo.
Actually that pic was taken on day one of ownership.... so i guess the dealer gets the credit for the wax job.
I like the look of yours because i see some mods that I myself am considering and its nice to see it on "my car".
The black fuel door and the rear blackout magnet looks really good on the silver car also the 8 inch antenna is a big diffrence and the ford racing dual exhaust looks cool with the black inserts and it sounds much better.

Here My 2cents. In My Old 5.0L I Put On A Whack Load Of Crap And The Comp Was Smart Enough It Just learned Off The Sensors And Adjusted For it. Now Thats When Cars Were Awesome And Parts Were Cheap And Gas was Cheaper. Since Then I Have HAd A Subaru Impreza WRX, Put On A Cold Air Intake With No Tune And From The Day I Put it On To The day I Sold The Car The Check Engine Light Was On, Then I Had A 2006 dodge charger, I Didnt Even Have To Do The Cold Air Intake I Just Put In The k&N And By The End Of The Day I Had My Check Engine Light On, Ive Had The Car About A Year And Still The CEL Is On, I Know Its A Dodge, Buts Its The Same Thing.......Lots Of Air.....Computers Not Tuned For It...So Now On My V6 I Dropped In A Green filter, And A Little Notice In Power. Lots Of Fuel Increase, I Went To The Track the Other Day It Was about An Hour Drive, Raced At The Track Pulled A 14,975 And Drove Home And Still Had quarter Tank, that number would prolly go up even more and the 1/4maile times down when i put a tune on it, theres so many out there and so much research to do, the one i am looking at is the bully dog tuner/monitor so not only can i set my tunes i can see what the motor is doing, and its got free downloads from the site. I Dont Think I Would Get A Tune Without it Having A Monitor It Even Reads EGTs. Just Gotta save Up A Few More pennies For it LoL. But As For The Safty Of A Tune, For Starters They Are Safe, I Do Work With THe Aftermarket for A Living And Have heard Nothing but Awesome Reviews About Them. secondly. If Your Getting A gt Later On in Life This Should Be your Learner Car. Make Your Mistakes Learn How To Tune, Learn What Works And What doesnt. LEarn How To Work On Your Car, Then When You Get The GT Put All That know Into that And Make A Killer Street Machine. Its All A Learning Process, Ive Blown Motors, Tires, Hoses, And Broken Trannys Crashed Cars, And Even Been Nailed With Street Racing.....And I Wouldnt Change A Thing About The Learning process Its What Makes Being A Car Guy Fun...( Though I Would Change The Street Racing Thing, lol That did suck) I Know Guys That Have Ran 12s In A V6 Car Just caused They Knew What To Do. It All What You make Of It. And How Much Money You Want To Dump Into It LoL.
