Default High Idle Problem

I know this has been posted atleast 4 times, but the posts are all over a year old. I have an 05 V6 manual trans. When I take it outta gear the idle raises up to 2000-2500. Past posts have stated that this is normal due to emissions. I am wondering if there is something that can be done to change this. Maybe something new that has come out in the last year or so.

First step would be to remove the air tube and give the throttle body a good cleaning.

+1

Make sure that the current setup is clean and operating properly.

Then if you still have the floating revs, you can talk to your tuner about adjusting the "dashpot" behavior to drop the revs more quickly.

I am still running the stock tune. The car does have duel exhaust, will that make a difference?

Still should make sure the throttle body is clean, in case there's any sticking in the action due to it being gunked up.

The factory tune delays throttle closing in order to reduce hydrocarbon emissions.

If you don't have an aftermarket tune/tuner, then pretty much that's the best you can do.

Well, actually there might be one other thing you can do.

I got a special version of the Zabteck throttle body.

It's a custom modified stock TB that's bored out with new thinner plates, slabbed throttle shaft, and more streamlined screws. It comes with new throttle motor and throttle position sensor.

Gives better throttle response and a little better mileage. Realistically, you get more gains from it if you have some type of forced induction than if you are normally aspirated.

Well anyway, the stock TB has a plastic idle adjustment mechanism that is calbrated and locked in place by the factory. Nothing you can do easily for adjusting it mechanically on your own.

So the special thing on mine was that Zabteck tried out a design for an adjustable metal mechanism. Worked pretty well for me.

The new part retained the spring loaded throttle delay mechanism, but it also could be adjusted in/out to adjust the idle speed, and the amount of delayed closing action.

Now my car drives with a lot more of a normal throttle close action, and I actually have compression braking, and the car doesn't try to drive itself down the highway.
