Speedo guys are awesome! I spoke to the guys you suggested and they have done the whole deal before. I will be driving the car down next week and after a test swap this weekend and should be good to go. The only thing that is nagging me, is statements by the two dealers I spoke to who claimed that the key info is in the cluster and that it would not start after the change. I get conflicting reports. Most everyone on this site has been able to do the swap and no problem with starting. I assume you were also able to swap and go?
Logic tells you the key info would be strored in the ECU since it has the actual connection to the ignition system.
I think I am okay, the 6 gauge cluster was a pull from a V6 Coupe, which probably had the Pony package since the speedo only goes to 120. I can probably assume if the car had the pony package it also had TCS and antilock brakes so the only real change is the computer, and the additional two gauges. I have the switches for the 6 gauge cluster already installed, cable was there, attached to the blank plate.
So this weekend I will test swap the cluster for verification to see if it works and then go to Richmond for the reset. $150 seems a little steep but, hey it is still less than a new cluster and paying Ford to do thier "magic." This place can also fix issues with the TPMS so its actually going to be cheaper than the dealer overall.
Thanks to all, I will post next week after it all done...hopefully with good news.
