So I was thinking about lowering the body of the mustang so the gap b/w tire and body is smaller. Any suggestions / cost estimate? Also - thinking about pushing out the tires a bit so it's a bit wider. again, any suggestions/ cost estimates.

Your best bet is with aftermarket lowering springs. I'v looked at just cutting off half a coil, but it doesn't appear that the coils are straight like an old Mustang is.

To push out the tire is pretty easy. Go down to Pep Boys and get wheel spacer. You'de be surprised what 1/8-1/4" will do for looks. If you try and move it out too much, the tires will hit the fenders. That's a bad thing.
