I know a cai / tuner is one of the first things people buy for there cars but is it really worth it for the $530? Is it more of a bragging rights type of thing "I have a cold air intake and it looks cool" or does it really make a performance difference? I just don't want to throw down $530 and install / tune it and be like, wow I just wasted half a grand.
i dont know about 530 bro. you can buy pre-fabricated ones and install yourself for like 1/5 of that price. as far as tuning is concerned, i wouldnt even bother to tune for more/colder air. but i am not a mechanic or even an experienced novice

from what I've heard, it's worth every penny, just as 05horse said. It's not just for bragging rights, people say the difference in power is VERY noticeable, and also you get better gas mileage, not sure how much though
People have told me that if you get a cold air intake with a good tune, and dual exhaust, you can gain 25 or 30 horsepower

they are for bragging rights, because they are such a great mod. and there is no point to buying a CAI WITHOUT a tune, they usually just end up screwing your car up, so get the tune with it, it should be good for 20-25 RWHP

A tune by its self will make a world of difference, and the CAI only adds on to that. $500 might seem like a lot of cash but it is worth every penny on that first test drive

Well guys, you all convinced me to purchase it. I just wanted to make sure it's worth it and it seems like it is. I'll let you guys know what I think in a about a week!
O and when I do the 91 octane tune should I run my car close to E then fill up with 91? or can I do it on a half a tank?

Run it as low as you can. I usually fill it up when the car says I have 10 miles or so left and after I fill it up, I drive for another few gallons just to be sure.

I hear you on that. I don’t yet have a tune in my car, but I have test driven one with a tune, a very noticeable difference. I have the added headache of living in Calif. Everything’s supposed to be CARB certified out here, some people choose to ignore the regulations and just switch it back when smog check time comes around. There’s some obscure regulation that the computer can’t have been re-flashed for some period prior to the smog check too (I think it may be 4 weeks, but I can’t remember for sure). I’ve looked at some CARB certified tuners (one by SCT, the other by FRPP), but am unsure how much I’d really gain with those (would a smog compliance tune be worth half a grand?).
i would call chris rose at tillman speed and get custom tunes with the tuner, and maybe for a better price, but worth a call. the phone number is on the ad to the right of this page. its a good cai and good mod.
