My buddy had a manual Pathfinder with the autostart, it worked great until the day he left it in gear and it ran across a busy 4 lane road and into a building. The feeling of watching it buck accross the road was one that I will never forget. Once we realized that nobody died, we laughed and laughed, and I am still talking about it 15 years later.
I had a BMW motorcylce with a Neutral Light, obviously it would illuminate when the shifter was in the neutral position. If the stang's autostarter were wired through the neutral light (I don't know if this kind of sensor exists or is available for our cars) as a safety precaution, I know I would feel better whenever I hit that start button on the remote.
Good Luck

In the Jeep TJ it's a matter of just pulling a fuse in the panel. The directions are even in the owner's manual. It's so that you can start the vehicle in gear without having to push in the clutch on a steep incline.
