2007 Mustang battery/charging problem...I've read other posts still stuck.
Hi everyone,
I have read other posts and still am confused.
Heres my story:
I was driving on the freeway and out of nowhere the radio cuts out and reads low battery. All my lights and dash dim and my wipers start to slow down. The battery gauge begins to drop pretty rapidly so I get off the freeway and drive about a mile and the car shuts down. the negative terminal was corroded so I used baking soda, etc. to clean it and tried to jump the car. It ran for 5 seconds then died. I end up buying a new battery ($100 later) and put it in. The car starts and runs now for two days. However today while driving the battery gauge starts to drop whenever I have the radio on or A/C. The windows even roll up slower. Did I make a mistake thinking it was the battery?
I have been reading the posts similar to my problem and people are saying the alternators from Ford are crap.
I am also trying to find out if the alternator is covered under the 60,000 powertrain or only the bumper to bumper. I have 58,000 miles right now.
If ANYONE has a suggestion or comment please help. Thanks very much.
My 2003 did that to me too. I replaced the alternator and the problem went away and stayed away.

I have an old Taurus (91) that was my dad’s, alternator failed on him at 22K miles. He made the mistake of putting another Ford unit in, failed again at 35K miles. Put in an aftermarket that time and no further trouble. It’s sad to think that with all the intervening years Ford still can’t make an alternator right (seems like a certain group of engineers need to be canned to me). I’m wondering how long the one in my 05 mustang will last.

It's called planned obsolescence... and unfortunately it's SOP in every business...
If it never breaks, how can they sell replacement parts?
Sounds like Ford found it's cash cow.
If you have a multimeter, start the car and check the voltage at the posts on the battery while the engine is running. You should be getting 14v to around 14.3v give or take a little but it shouldn't be less than 14.
I had the same problem a couple months ago. Put in a new battery just like you so that I could get it home. I checked the alternator when I got it home and it was only putting out 11v. I replaced it with one from NAPA.

You're already running on borrowed time with it.

I got yet another problem. battery and alternator are good
Hi,
I replaced both the battery and alternator and both are working great! Now, however, when I start the car my idle drops from 750 RPM to about 500 RPM and the car is borderline stalling. I know that in this situation I should check fuel, air, spark... I have been working on cars for a while, mostly older stuff, but am comfortable doing what I need to do. The problem is where I live is not the place where I am able to just start taking the car apart.
I was curious if anyone else experienced this after an alternator and/or battery replacement or if I should assume they are completely unrelated. Thanks for all the help with the previous problem and I look forward to any comments.
By the way, I notice the drop mostly on startup and when I put the car into park (auto). Occasionally it does it when I have had the A/C on but it may just be coincidence.
