I just brought my pride and joy to the dyno for the first time to help finalize the tuning. It made 280 HP, well 288 the first time and 280 in the next 2 runs. I was a bit disappointed but then I remembered we did all the runs with the automatic in 3rd gear. Is there more power in 4th gear?
Incidentally there's still more timing to add, and I'm only injecting water with my Snow system right now, so there's more power to be had yet

3rd gear is the last torque gear before the 1:1 ratio and it levels out
in 3rd your still getting more imputs than out puts, so your makeing power at 1:1 teh imputs and outputs level out, and in 5th, imputs are fewer than outputs.
what this means is the torqe cureve levels out in 4th. so no use for it. 3rd is the kicking gear in any car..... atleast thats how it was explained to me lol

X-C April 2010,Internals April 2011, or blown engine, witch ever comes first.
The transformation has begun!
I just noticed its an automatic, so 1:1 should be third and fourth would be an overdrive
Pretty sure the automatic is a 5 speed...at any rate I should have put it in Drive, the dyno operator wanted to manually select the gear for some reason...not much experience with Mustangs I guess. I'll be at the dyno again next month, I'll get a better idea then.

Correct. The 05+ Mustangs have a 5 speed auto transmission. The V6 and V8 both use the same transmission. 4th is a 1:1 ratio and that's what you want for a dyno test. Any other gear ratio used will throw off the numbers and make them meaningless. Make sure you push the button on the side of the shifter and turn off overdrive for the test even though I doubt it would drop into overdrive during a dyno session.

pretty sure they dont use the exact same transmission. I dont have any facts to back that but i do know that the 4.0 uses a manual T5 transmission and the 4.6 uses a manual TR3650. The Gt needs a stronger transmission

Ahem...notice I said the 5 speed auto transmission. They're the same on both vehicles. This whole thread is about the auto tranny at a dyno test.
