2006 Mustang Auto Tranny Shifting Poorly and Sluggish - Suggestions?
My 2006 Mustang just hit 90k and i've been noticing lately that the car is getting more and more sluggish. The automatic transmission seems to be very sluggish, its not quick to shift like it was when i first bought the car. It just seems like the entire drivetrain is sluggish - the tranny oil is brand new, so its not that causing the sluggish shifting, so what is?
Anyone else have a problem with their cars not shifting quick or being really sluggish?

I'm replacing the spark plugs today, I have to assume that after 90k miles they're needing to be replaced. The air filter was dirty, cleaned it out yesterday though so that's not the issue either.
As for it being the engine or the tranny, I can only assume its the transmission because i've had issues with it before.
When you come to a slow down to a red light and then accelerate before actually stopping, its really sluggish off the bat and the tranny starts making a loud jerking noise. I've posted my tranny problems on here but no one's offered up a solution since no one's had the same issue and after a few trips to the tranny shop, nothing there either!
You shouldn't have a clunking noise when slowing down to take a turn and then accelerate and then the clunking kicks in.
at 90k, your due for a ton of maintenence, now or real soon. you should be on at least your 2 or 3rd set of spark plugs.your due for new wires. all the filters, air, oil, fuel, cabin, trans. you should have done around 15-18 oil changes so far. replace the gear oil in the rear end. replace the brake fluid, check the brake pads. replace the power steering fluid, rad hoses and thermostat and new coolant. check the fan belt for cracks and stretch with the marks on the tensioner pulley. grab your driveshaft and check the u-joints. CLEAN the throttle body! clean the battery connections real good while you reset the computer. maintenance is the key

Is there a manual out there to show how to clean the throttle body?
I just took my Stang' in the shop and found out my lower thermostat body gasket is leaking and they mentioned taking the throttle body off to do so. They're asking almost 400.00 to replace the stupid 3.00 gaskets, so naturally I want to do this myself.
theres like 4 small bolts, a couple elect plugs and your intake tube and the throttle body is loose. on the 05 there are 2 coolant hoses at the bottom of it. you can do a bi-pass on the coolant hoses, or if you dont want to take them off you can lay some towels on the motor and clean it right there, or disconnect the hoses and take it right off. just get a can of throttle body cleaner, spray it down real good and use some clean rags to get all the black soot off it and the butterfly. 05 horse has a write up on doing the thermostat somewhere on here. i coulnt find my write up on the bi-pass but here a follow up and you can see the hose i took off, turned around and re-routed. the thermostat housing is about 56.00 for the bottom) which is a common part to crack), 13.00 for the top, and get a new thermostat, not sure about the gaskets but i`m getting ready to do mine too.
Since you're replacing your thermostat housing and all of that mess, can you let me know how it goes please?
I just took off the upper thermostat housing to replace the o-ring ( i was told this is where it's leaking ) and well, it's definitely Not the case so not only is that not the case but my engine's covered in anti-freeze. Needless to say, i'm not happy right now.
But please let me know how it goes removing the whole bottom portion of it as thats what i'm gonna be doing soon, definitely before winter. Mine's got a real slight leak and dont want to get stuck in a blizzard n want something happening!
if you removed the top, you were right there. heres the instructions. i got this from the online manual located in the sticky threads at the top of the forum. Ford Service Manuals - REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
