For most cars it should be on level ground at normal operating temp. Shift through all the gears, then check the level

There is no dipstick, it's a sealed system. Dealer can check it if required. Is it slipping or leaking? You suspect it's low for some reason?

on the sealed trans, it can be messy. get the trans fluid to operatating temp, while its running remove the drain plug on the bottom of trans. if fluid comes out the hole, its full. it fluid does not come out, you need to use a pump to get the fluid up into the trans until it does come out. basically where the drain plug is there is a tube going up into the trans, when its full it over flows the top of that tube and comes out the drain hole. i must admit, not one of fords better ideas. there is a deep trans pan that comes with a dipstick which i think is a great idea, however it is very expensive.

well, its not that hard to put the car on stands, let it run till hot and take the plug out and see what happens. just be ready with a pan and rags incase it gushes out. i had mine flushed. i had them pump some cleaner into it, run it around the block a couple times. then they disconnect the hoses in frt of the engine bay, hook up the machine and let the trans pump the fluid through it. after the 14 qts go through it, they check to make sure its full. you can see the fluid come out nasty black( 50,000) and the new stuff going in. if i had that machine, i would do it every 25k

yeah i sell and fix those tranny machines. rti tech atx2 or 3
very nice machine, there are others but i like the rti machine the best.go on there web site it shows you how they do a flush.

we use valvoline flush products, they put in the trans and let it run, breaks down all the garbage, then you hit 1 button for the flush to start,10 minutes later your done!i did it to my car and used the valvoline maxlife atx,i get a full warranty from valvoline if it breaks.

if anyone out there is interested in flushing all your vital fluids?
go to a place that sells and uses valvoline vps products, the warranties and stuff they offer as long as you keep the reciepts and history of your vps flushes, and if something breaks, your covered.they will back up there warranty no problem!

whats great is i have all the machines for all the flushes, and product and its all FREE!!!
sorry to rub it in,this is the only good thing that has come from my career choice!

The price to flush a trans is a little steep at the dealer but its a sound investment in my opinion when compared to the cost to repair or replace a transmission.

The fact that you can't easily check fluid level in most automatics today is frustrating. I guess the average driver who doesnt want to pull service plugs just waits until they see fluid under the car or the transmission slips during a turn to figure out the fluid is low.

I had an issue and it turned out my shifter was done. I didn't and don't know much about cars (still learning) but I spent a good 30 minutes looking for a dipstick. Come to find out it's sealed. I just stood there and cussed Ford out for a good minute. Genius guys...
