Default 2005 Mustang V6 maintainance tips

Hi everybody,

Just bought a legend lime '05 V6 with 53K on it. It is bone stock. No problems with the car at all so far. Little vibration on the pedal when driving around 60-70 km/h only, which I hear is pretty common in this model. I made sure that Ford topped up all fluids, tightened brakes, checked exhaust system for leaks and touched up the scratches.

Anyway, I love it and want to make sure I take care of it properly. The dealership salesman didn't give me much info except "oil change at every 4K/6 months". I would really really appreciate it if one of the senior, more experienced members would compile a basic list of normal maintainance I need to perform at regular intervals to keep it running like a charm.

(If anyone has come across this list already compiled on here, please post the link)

Thank you so much!

P.S - it will not be driven at all during winter, will be rustproofed and put in a heated garage.

Welcome to AFM!

I hope you enjoy your Limer. As far as maintaining your car I would just follow the recommended service intervals in the owners manual.

The only added suggestion I have if you have an automatic is to have the transmission flushed every 50,000 miles. It simply replaces all of the trans fluid and flushes the system clean. The dealership can do that.

We have a registry for Limers. it is LegendLimeRegistry.com

+1 on flushing the trans. have them re balance the tires if you have some vibration. if that is the oem battery, i would replace that. spark plugs too. i`m a maintenance freak. the owners manual is a good guide to go by for a normal person

Thanks a lot for the feedback!

Will get the tires rebalanced and yep it's an auto so I'm gonna keep the 50,000 miles suggestion in mind too. I will replace the battery and the plugs next spring. The winters are retarded up here around the Toronto area.
Also looking to get the C&L intake and X-calibrator tune combo from bamachips in the spring. Found a lot of positive info about this combo on this forum. Can't wait.

I have just recently posted this on my site. Mine is nearing 60K and I would like to make sure that I keep up on it.

you know i do, i`m a maint. freak but i never had warranty on my car so its all up to me. thats a pretty good list, but myself, nearing the 60,000, while servicing the coolant, flush, i would replace the hoses.last thing you want is to have a hose go and overheat the motor( on a sunday night in the rain) also keep in mind alot of the plastic thermostat housings crack around this time, so a new housing and thermostat wouldnt hurt either. i dont like running shocks and struts much over 60k either.( i replaced mine with gt takeoffs for pretty cheap) bounce on each corner of your car and check for only 1 bounce, and inspect them for any wetness meaning they are leaking. i`ll also replace my fan belt by 60k( keep the original for a backup, like on a long trip, check it good for cracks, and there is a stretch indicator on the tensioner body), i replaced my spark plug wires around 50k( even though they might last to 100k). take a good look at the crank pulley, check the 3/8" rubber circle on the frt of it, if it looks tattered and not smooth, its going bad.( mine came apart around 55k). visually inspect everywhere for any signs of leaks. take a turkey baster with a 3" pc of gas hose stuck on the end, and suck out your power steering fluid and replace and also the brake fluid. thats alot of miles on those fluids.( a complete flush if your really into it)

I've noticed one more thing..
When I accelerate even normally, along with a engire rumble there is this quite audible scream-like sound, kind of like when an airplane is taking off and the air is rushing into the engines. Is this normal?
