its like the clutch in a manual trans. it determines by what rpm the trans will engage, and transfer the power from the motor to the transmission to the wheels. i talked to a guy that actually got 5 more mpg in his big dodge truck by changing his. i think for hot rodders, its more of having a higher rpm to kick in, getting more into the power band. someone correct me if i`m wrong.

im pretty sure if you were to get a stall converter for say 3000 rpm, you will not even start going until your rpms reach 3000 so you would jerk forward if you just wanted to take off slowly. big stall converters are really for racing applications. again, someone more qualified correct me if im wrong

Yeah the idea is that a higher stall converter will lock up the engine and trans at a higher RPM, thereby making for better launches at the track because the car gets higher into the power band. In older cars (not much older) you could buy higher stall converters for that effect BUT and stop me if I'm wrong the torque converter in our cars is fully computer controlled as in it will lock up when the computer tells it to.
So I don't think there's a benefit to upgrading it except in cases where you might make so much power that you break the stock piece and that would take alot since the auto trans is the same as the GT's.

Word has it that the automatic transmission is interchangable between the cars, it just gets a different bell housing to mate to the engine. The manual however is not the same, I don't know the names off by heart but I believe the V6 manual was used in previous generation GTs. It's strong but not as strong as what the 2005+ GT gets.

manual trans in the v6 is a t5. $hit's weak. as for the tq converter, im guessing youre talking about the one from tci....dont do it unless youre running 500hp and want to launch as hard as u can. kinda pointless for a DD or street use car

the older t5's were capable of up to 350 hp stock im pretty sure, but could be made for more beefier set ups, im sure the newer ones are about the same if not stronger
