I had the same debate and heard both pros and cons. After thinking about it and knowing what I want the final outcome to be I decided to do a whole new rear end. newtakeoff.com has one for us. It's a great lil set up. 8.8" Rear axle assembly, 4.10:1 ratio with ABS and Trac-Loc (Cobra Pinion Flange). I had it installed this spring and taking it to the track this sunday. I had a 75 Zex wet shot I was going to put on but that got put to the side. For the plans I'd like to do having the 8.8 already there is a + for me. Install was about $150.00. I'm loving the 4.10's now.
I guess it's what you plan on doing with it. If you plan on doing a turbo or s/c then it would be benefical. Other then that it's a personal opinion. Whatever makes you feel safe. They are strong and can hold up.
