Default Long Tube Headers

Does anyone have experience with long tube headers on the S197 4.0's? I was curious on the power difference compared to the stock shorties if any.

The general opinion is that LT's will net some power increase (maybe 5-10? not real sure on the numbers) and that the shorties are negligible ( only 1 or 2 ponies). I personally have Pypes shorties, and while they may not produce any extra power (they might, idk) they will produce a deeper exhaust note. The LT's will produce a much better sound and slight power increase, but will require a shorty mid-pipe (catted to pass inspection) on top of the already expensive price. If you dont already have dual exhuast, expect to shell out about $1200 for everything.

Hope this helps

If you already have dual exhaust you will still need to get a shorty midpipe. The headers them selves will run you about 6-700 bucks and the midpipe prolly another 150. I personally dont think its worth it. Unless you are going to do something radical i.e. supercharger, heads, cams, etc. i wouldnt bother.

I would recommend the shorties just because. I got them just cuz i always wanted headers If you do get shorties shop around. I bought Pypes because they were a little cheaper than others but still a good name. I've heard that JBA's are good but idk. I think thats what Shelby uses.

As far as installation goes, i got scared and had the ford dealler do it. cost me 250 for the headers and 170 to install.

Hope this helps.

Definitly thanks. I'll probably just go with the Shorties from Pypes then, but thanks again! =D

I have to disagree. From what I understand, shorties are negligible (as in not even 5) while the longtube will provide a significant increase. Over 10-20 for sure. This is from what I have read.

i got my Mac long tubes for $380 from their site. the headers go to magnaflow cats and straight pipes. if you wanted im sure you could just keep the lower half of your pypes dual exhaust starting from the X and just have a shop fix up something for you.

yeah BUY THE LONGTUBES

ok i don't really have any experience, but if you have the money i would do it. You can actually get pacesetter ones for like 180 bucks but they aren't very good

you aren't going to spend 1200 bucks on headers and stuff. I'm going to get the macs i think (like mentioned above) and have a shop or some buddy of mine and me put em on when i get the money

so what all long tubes can you get? I really dont want shorties and want a deeper tone but also some power.

i know the pacesetters are very cheap but i guess they are not good at all.

so what are the options?

yeah i heard that kooks are supposedly good....but never really heard them or anything

Pacesetters might give you around the same gains but for 190 bucks or so they are painted and that means that after some time they'll look like crap...rust out or something i'm not sure. That's why I think (like stlwagon convinced me) spend the extra money to get a good product that will still look ok after quite a while.

So I think MAC is probably the way to go
