Default V6 is STILL leaking anti-freeze . . .

I replaced the thermostat housing on my V6 last weekend. When I put the thermostat sensor back into the new housing, its super loose and is not a tight fit. Thus, it leaks.

I called Ford and they couldn't tell me a da*n thing on how to fix it.

I got advice on here to wrap the bottom in teflon tape. I did that, it worked for a few days and now its leaking yet again.

Solutions anyone? This is getting ridiculous! I'm tired of smelling anti-freeze and leaking it everywhere!

FORD has more than housing for their V6's because they use different size sensors. I stated before to take the old sensor to the parts store and compare them. Also you can use a heli core to put on the sensor to increase the size of it.

i'll take the sensor down but i've already called Ford and they swear they only sell one sensor for the V6's, as well as Auto zone and Napa. But i'll try it anyways

i hate teflon tape.there are plenty of other thread sealers. thats sad you might have to drill it out, tap it and heli coil it. that might be the best idea. i would try the yellow gasket adhiesive. put it on the threads, screw it in and let it dry. its good stuff too and if your not sloppy, it shouldnt plug up the sensor.

I found at least three other guys who have used the reproduced thermostat housing and there's has leaked just like mine is -- pretty freaking sad by Ford if you ask me.

As for re-threading and all of that, there are no threads. The sensor just sits inside of the housing, that's it. It's clipped in, that's all. There's no screwing it in (Like it should be!!!!!) or anything, just sit it in the housing, use a horribly designed clip and that's all.

Please do let me know if you have any issues.

ahhh, so it sits in there, and theres a o-ring under it, then the clip is suppose to hold it tight?( i`m getting the parts monday so then i can see it) sounds pretty crappy though. i dont want to take the chance of mine breaking out on the road, like 05 horse on a sunday night in the dark in the rain on the other hand, if its gonna leak, that renders the car useless

its extremely crappy and such a poor design by ford!

every car i have ever owned, the temp sensor Screws into the engine block one way or another, they dont 'sit' in the engine and are held in by a clip -- crap by ford if you ask me

Figured out my problem!!!

Called ford and demanded they sell me just the darn o-ring for the sensor. So i go down there to argue with them, he shows me the replacement sensor and the o-ring is a normal, think o-ring you buy from auto zone. Notice when you pull your original sensor the o-ring is a fat/tall one!

When I saw that i had him bring a new housing to fit the two together and sure enough, he almost had to jam the sensor into the housing. Therefore, my problem is -- a faulty part from Ford!

For whatever reason, i got a housing that had an enlarged sensor hole and so now, i get to rip everything back apart and install a new housing and hopefully, this time it'll work out!

But boy oh boy, if you need an o-ring for the sensor, do NOT talk to Ford about it. He was so damn adamant about NOT selling me the o-ring without the sensor, costing almost 50 bucks! Sheesh -- customer service at Ford sucks!

so did the guy sell you a o ring? but they gave you another housing? when i get around to changing mine, i`ll check that out before i tear it all apart. whats the chance that 05horse and someother guys got bad housings. maybe there was a defective load of them shipped some little shop probably makes those and their moto is "when in dought, ship it out"

I went back and got a new housing and a new thermostat sensor just in case. I installed the new sensor and it works great, no leaking. So word of advice to all, if you replace the housing you better get the sensor too! It's the same thing as your original sensor that came new on the car but for whatever freaking reason, the new one wont leak and your original will -- just another way Ford makes 42 bucks on ya!
