Default speedometer berserk

my speedometer does not return to zero! sometime it starts way below zero, sometime it is 30mph (e.g. if it start at 30mph and i m travelling at 65mph, the speedometer will show 95mph!)

any one know how to solve this problem?

Hey man, my car randomly does the same thing too. It has happened 4 or 5 times since I've had the car... And honestly I still don't know what the heck causes the speedometer to stick...
I have a picture of my speedometer where the needle is pointing straight down (looks to be at about 185 mph. I should post it...) But yeah, it sticks at a random number sometimes and I don't know why... I'll be sitting still and it says I'm doing 60,and when I'm doing 60 it says I'm going 120 etc...

I looked all over the web and couldn't find a solution. Then one day when I had the problem I pulled off the road, and turned off my car. NOW HERES THE SOLUTION:
Turn off your car, then start it. The needle should have went down about 5mph from where it was before. Turn of your car, then start it back up again. Repeat as necessary until it goes back to 0.

Yes it only moves in small increments so you might have to turn off and start again about 15-20 times or so before it goes back down to 0 again.

Its tedious but that's the only way that I've found to make it go back to normal.
Give it a shot, I hope this helps...

this might be a long shot, but if you dont have any warranty i would try it. you could unplug the cluster and plug it back in. it might re-set it and only takes about 15 minutes to try. i`m getting ready to do a short write up next week on installing the my color/message center cluster on my 05 basic V6. lower your steering colum with the lever under the steering wheel. gently pry off the trim panel around the cluster. there are 4 small bolts holding the cluster in. lay a rag on top of the steering colum so you dont scratch it with the cluster when you pull it out a little and tip it to see the plug behind it. there is a gray lever on the plug. i dont have a good pic, but there is a small black button on the top of the plug, you can see where i put the little screwdriver, push that down and the gray lever will swing back ( to where you see it in the pic) and pulls the plug out of the hole in the cluster. when you plug it back in ,push the lever back to the locked position youll hear a bunch of noises. might be worth a try

unhook the battery for at least an hour let everything reset, that should fix it if it is just the computer acting up.

what year is your car and how many miles? i`m guessing you dont have warranty or you would have taken it in. i would try unplugging it and plugging it back in. might have a bad connection. you have nothing to loose and only takes 10 min. i never had a prob with mine but i yanked it out and installed the mycolor. thats a option( but not cheap).
