i got a set of flowmaster american thunders they sound good...but with any dual upgrade on the V6 other than maybe gt take offs, it will start to get raspy about3K
a CAI and tune took 98% of the pop out of mine.
but i reccomend them

The transformation has begun!
No muffler will sound good on a V6. They all sound like tuners. I'd just keep it stock. if he wants the sound of you're ride tell him to buy a V8.
Ah yes.....another positive V6 assessment with the famous just "buy a V8" comment to end it. Helpful!
I have a Single GT takeoff M/T on our 4.0 and it sounds much better than stock with zero rasp, drone or "tuner" to it. It added throat and a nice tone. It does not sound like a 8 cyl and never will, but its a vast improvement over the stock. Its not about "loud" with a V6, its about a deeper and better tone. If he wants loud he will be more likely to get rasp boarding on a "tuner", depending on what setup he chooses.
well the stock exhaust sounds fine actuially...that and the fact that ford did a pretty damn good job tuning it for the v6...one thing you need to remember is that the v6 is an even firing v6...that's actuially good for being smooth at highway speeds...but it has a shorter stroke cycle then other cars and in that, a dule exhaust system will make it sound raspy at higher rpm's one of the ways to create a better sound is to well...muffle the higher pitch note...a turbocharger is one of the alternatives for that as it builds back pressure...that naturally muffles the sound and may even be a bit deeper then the stock exhaust...not to mention the leaps and bounds of HP you may achieve from a system like that...Im not a huge fan of rasp either and thats just my 2 bits on the subject.

to be completely honest leave it single or do a y pipe 2.5 to 3.0" dia...3.0 mandrel bend is prefered for a turbo set up. Headers will come in the kit and will bolt up to the stock exhaust flanges...JBA i think makes some of the best exhaust "sound wise" supersix motors makes heads for the 4.0 and a special cam...BUT be carefull because that will take away your low RPM punch UNLESS you go for a ball bearing turbo kit...so just keep that in mind...but by the time your done you spent a mere 5,000 to 6,000 dollars and you will be at...380 HP on a MILD tune not to mention the limitless potential for further HP upgrades later on...the stock block is definately able to handle it...heck they make positive displacement for the ford explorer 4.0 (same engine) THEN, with suporting mods and it will sound far better then stock IMO...it will NEVER sound like a V8 because it simply isnt a V8...its not a bad thing...its just a thing...go a head and let them laugh at you at the track then when you pull 11.3 in a 1/4 mile then the laughing STOPS DEAD!
thats a good starter kit and then you can upgrade from there. think of it this way...you can spend 4,000 on this car and not gain any HP just for the all show no go...wouldn't you want all go and SOME show...aka SLEEPER!!

i`m still lovin the gt takeoffs. they got a little louder with 20k on them and sound great. i agree with 05horse, alot of people cant tell if i have a 8 or a 6 slow or on the gas. have him put 1 gt on, that sounded better then the 6 muffler and its under 100 bucks. i get tons of compliments on how nice it sounds

I love tis forum. I was just gonna search old threads and here you guys are talking about the subject Im looking for. A guy at work has a V6. He wants to use my takeoff GT mufflers. he does not have dual exhaust and most likely will not be getting it. So heres my questions. If he adds the one muffler will he have to do anything else to the car to make it fit? How will it sound? Will it look like it belongs there and not some added rice fart can?
