Default Rear Sway-Bar / Throttle Body Spacers

As many of you know, I bought a GT takeoff rear sway bar. Came with everything I needed except for the four bolts and nuts to mount it to the shock mount. No biggie dallas mustang hooked me up with 3 of the 4 nuts and bolts and i bought the other from Ford parts. After getting my car jacked up and getting underneath it I come to find out they sold me the nuts aren't going onto the bolts all the way. I head up to Ford and take it into the service bays. Turns out DM basically gave me and Ford sold me the wrong bolts. So anyways as I'm driving home I decide it's time for a new mod (yes it took me a whole 15 minutes lol). So I get home check my checking balance, run down to the bank deposit my coin jar and all the cash I have and it comes out to be just enough for an intake spacer, gears, and an LSD. Here's where my questions come into play. 1.) have any of you installed your own gears? I've worked on everything in a car but the rear end but I'm not really scared to do it myself. Any advice tips hints? 2.) is there a difference between the two intake spacers on AM? The steeda one is 10 dollars more but I'm wondering if that's just a brand thing.

dont buy an intake spacer. useless, and makes an annoying whistle. amustangrocks i believe did his own gears, not sure on that though.

i havent had time to do them yet. i`ll need 2 days off in a row just in case i run into problems, but its coming soon. i still need to devise a method to set the pinion depth too. i might do a write up when i do it, but i dont know if i`m into that much writing and pics.

yeah, don't buy the space if you want 2-3 ponys buy some shorty headers off ebay for like 100, anythings better than a spacer, and i think there is a wirte up on how to chagnge gears and rear end on 05 horse mod it should be stickied

I would not attempt gears if you have never done it...without knowledge of "lash" and how to set it, leave it to the pros, otherwise you'll have no money and no running car...

Default Gears are a touchy thing.

According to factory service manual for my 2006 Mustang, the 8.8 is a "shim" for backlash setup, and a shim and crush sleeve for pinion setup.
The 7.5 appears to be the same setup. The pinion is not bad to setup, but the pinion carrier can be a pain.
I just setup a (sorry guys) a 8.25" for a Chrysler, it has adjustable pinion carrier for backlash, lots easier.
If you DO decide to do your own gears, be VERY PATIENT! It takes some time.
I quoted local shop for changing gears for me, wanted approximately $250, for that price, and their warranty, LET THEM DO IT!

your gonna need a few tools to do the gears. your gonna need the bearing install kit when you order the gears whether you try it your self or not. your gonna need to make a tool to hold the pinion flange so you can torque the nut to 250 ft lbs. gonna need a bearing separator or a press. a dial indicator and a magnetic indicator base or stand for checking and setting the backlash. a micrometer to measure shims and a dial calliper too. replacing at least the axle seals, and/or bearings might be in order too. there is company that makes a good pinion depth setting tool, but they dont make one for the 7.5.( i talked to them). there is a write up on here for doing a 8.8 gear change. its close to the same but it will give you a clue whats up. if you were replacing the gears with ford gears you can use the same pinion shims for starters. i got the motives, so i`ll have to devise a way to set the depth some other way. in this write up he used a homemade bar with a hole in it off the housing and measured with a dial calliper. first thing he tells you is its not a job for the weekend do it yourselfer.

Wow alot of anti throttle body spacer talk. Yes you get minimal gains but races are won by 0.001 of a second and every little horespower helps. I have priced quite a few and alot has to do with brand.
