I just changed my battery cables and now it won't start... everything gets power, it just does not turn over to start. I have checked all the connections I've checked everything over 50 times to make sure its all plugged in right and even have the ford mechanics diagram and print out of instructions. I was thinking it may just be a weak battery, but would everything in the card still come on if it was? Please help. Thanks

No problems before the change? what kind of cables are they, same size? From the battery to the fusebox? Did you change the ground? Does the starter turn over at all? Do the lights dim when you try to start?

well i found out the owner before me had spliced a couple old cables together and crimped with a medal crimp without a cover and it started shorting out about a month ago and the car would die completely when it would short out I would have to raise the hood and move the cable around to get it to start again. So I got new battery cables from the ford dealership and connected it back the exact same way. The lights don't dim at all everything works great it just won't turn over to start... do you think it would have to do with the starter solenoid? I don't see why it would be working fine then just not work cause I changed to new cables... anyways thats whats happened

ok well I tried disconnecting the solenoid cables cleaned the solenoid, wd-40, the works and still didn't turn over I don't know what else to check or do... I refuse to let this keep me from getting her running again... I'm NOT gonna tap out and tow it to the dealership...hell no!!

make sure all the terminal connections are contacting well (no dirt/corrosion etc.). Possibly lightly tap the starter itself. You may have a bad contact point inside the starter that's preventing it from turning.

The transformation has begun!
Hi guys, don't these have a lock out circuit on the shifter that keeps you from engaging the starter if it's in gear? Maybe try working the shifter a couple of times?
ya my brother in-law told me to try that so I ran it through all the gears multiple times and still nothing. Its an automatic by the way, don't know if I mentioned that. Is there a fuse that goes to the starter that could have blown and if so which one is it?

Here's a link to an on-line service manual, it shows the starter relay position in the box (passenger side, by the radiator).
Some looking should be able to locate the actual fuse position. http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forum...ce-manual.html
Check fuse F21 (10a) in the smart junction box If the fuse is good Check with the test light across the fuse terminals with the fuse removed while trying to start with the clutch depressed.
second check fuse F4 (30a) in the main fuse box. Check for power across the fuse terminals with fuse removed. Should be hot all the time.
If the above doesn't lead you to the problem ...
Connect the test light from chassis ground to the ign control connector on the starter (not the cable from the battery) and crank the car with the clutch pedal depressed.
The test light should com on when you crank. If it doesn't, it could be the starter relay, PCM or passive anti-theft.
Just ignore the clutch pedal part but do the test.
If you think it may be the relay swap one of the others(not the fuel pump)
Thanks fellas for all the help I got it fixed!!!!! I love that feeling...its kinda like your stickin it to the "man" (dealership)
It was a fuse it was in the fuse box under the hood 30a easy fix once I found it only 4 bucks at pep boys. Really everyone thanks for all the help... I love the mustang community! Nothin like it
