Default I have a bad feeling this is gonna be a long winter!

Today it was about 45 degrees and my car had trouble starting. Took about 3-4 seconds of cranking the engine for the car to start and after it started the first 2 seconds the engine was only running at about 300-400 rpm then went to normal. It sounded like the engine was going to die. Sounded like RUMM ...(got quiet)...RUMM ...(got quiet)... RUMM. If its already doing this now at 45 degrees I don't want to know what its gonna do when its -20 degrees. This is my first winter with this car and so far I'm kinda scared!

I have work tomorrow at 8am so I'll post a video if it does it tomorrow morning.

you really shouldnt have any starting problems. hows you wires and plugs? also, you might want to remove and clean your throttle body. disconnect you air tube and take a look inside. if its all black coated, i would clean it. are you on top of all your maintenance like fuel filter ect? its also time to check your rubber boots on the e cables where they connect to the rear calipers for cracks. any crack will mean your cables will freeze up this winter( always when you dont want it to happen) its a very common problem.

hmm that does sound strange like maybe it wasn't getting enough fuel. Usually when its cold the car will rev higher to warm up faster.

Now that I think about it I haven't checked my Fuel filter either... what is the interval for checkups?

you can check the owners manual, but after seeing what came out mine and hers, i`m gonna go every 20k now. that was some nasty stuff that poured out. its cheap and easy.

pull the fuel pump relay, its in the fuse box under the hood, towards the battery side. crank the car over a couple times to relieve the pressure, some guys loosen the gas cap. loosen the plastic cover under the drivers side, push the little buttons on the clips and pull the lines off. some gas is gonna leak out be ready for it. unclamp and replace filter, make sure the lines click back on good. its about 14-16.00. i had oreillys get me motorcrafts.

05horse has a write up on it too in the stickys on like page 3 of his diy garage post.

It was a little colder today and it started up just fine now ... hmm. I'm about to hit 30k miles so its about time to change the fuel filter and trans fluid.

I found a good article that has pictures and step by step instructions on how to change the fuel filter. 05-09 (S197) Mustang Fuel Filter Install - LRS Blog - Read Here Shop Here It seems very easy to do and to think I was going to pay my local shop $70 bucks to change it.

In the article above though he didn't say to relive the fuel pressure first.
Go to your fuse box and remove the fuel pump relay which is 21 if you look in the manual.
Start the engine and wait (let it idle) for it to stall or it might not even start.
After engine stalls turn ign switch off and disconnect the neg battery cable. Then follow procedures that are above. Return everything back before starting the engine.

We have the same car and mine's doing that lately too. I suspect it's the battery winding down, they don't have much CCA when they're new, they're bound to get mediocre after 4 years. Haven't gotten around to getting mine tested but I'm planning to buy a new one next month. Good luck.
