Default V6 Automatic Transmission Shifting Issues - Anyone else??

It seems like if it's not one thing it's another on my Stang all of a sudden. I got the thermostat housing finally fixed and my idling issues but now the tranny is not shifting correctly.

When you put the tranny into drive and let the computer shift it from first to second, it'll rev up to about 4grand and instead of instantly kicking down to 2nd gear, it's hesitating - almost as if its missing the shift and then pops into the 2nd gear out of no where. So it'll hesitate for a second or two and then kick into the next gear. Does that for all of the gears!

And besides that, i've mentioned before on here the clunking noise it makes when going around turns/corners when you take your foot off the pedal to slow around the turn and then give it gas, it clunks really badly.

Could it be the torque converter or does this sound like the tranny's just gotta get replaced? It's got 95k miles on it - fluid is full and was replaced a few months back.

before anything else, i would check or get checked, the fluid level again. we have seen shifting problems caused by low fluid levels. it may very well be something else, but i would start there. if it wasnt at operating temp when they filled it, it might be low. check for any signs of leakage under there too.

Seriously - not one other Mustang has had any shifting issues at all? I can't imagine mine is the only Mustang who has had this issue

Is there a solenoid or sensor that controls the shifting that could possibly going out and I can replace or?

Anyone????

The clunking sound is probably the backlash play that can originate in the splinned shaft where it connects to the trans output, the U-joints, or mesh clearance in the diff. I have a manual and the exces play is evident more in 5th than any other, so the transmission is a player in my situation.

As far as the shift problems in your automatic. Have a reputable shop check it out. You have 95k on the car . . . issues will start cropping up.

at 95k-100k its due for a trans filter with the oil change. while they( or you) are doing that, the bands can be adjusted as they are right there. was that your first oil change on that trans and did you do the filter? most often, shift problems are due to low oil level. but i agree with onez st, have a decent shop check it out. the shift firmness and speed is done by the computer. are you running a tune? try a different tune. just throwing ideas at ya
