i'm trying to order long tubes but i can't decide which brand to get. i have a few choices and a search of the forums yielded me nothing so here's a quick low down on the different 4.0 long tubes.


pacesetters - painted headers but only 210 shipped

mac - polished ceramic. they're 360 dollars but i've heard its worth the extra money. however i've also been told that i should buy nothing but stainless steel

kooks - stainless steel.. but get ready for this 656.00 on their website. i don't wanna pay the extra money unless it really is worth it.

i've also heard jba makes a longtube header but i was unable to locate it and they're closed so i'll give them a call when they open.


and for you shorty lovers, i'm getting long tubes no questions asked.

oh and just a little side note i'm going for performance not sound

If and when i get headers i am going with Kooks hands down. They make some of the bes quality ones for the S-197

contrary to the popular belief, shorties can go power side too.

just ask my buddy, 620 HP on a set of BBK shorties.

I went with the Kooks LT on my car as well as the Kooks cat'd x-pipe. Love the sound and look of them.

My buddy as the American Racing setup and they sound just as nice.

yeah but you get more gains out of long tubes. if i had a forced inductioned gt i wouldn't be too worried about the long tubes. however i want the extra 10 ponies. i'm trying to break into the 8's in the 1/8th and long tubes and drag radials should be enough.

pypes doesn't make longtubes for the 4.0. that's why i said all the brands in the original post

if whichever company i choose sells a midpipe i will buy it. however if they don't i'll cut mine right before the h, weld in the cats right before, and then cut out the manifold connectors and weld those next to the cats. kind of make my own custom mid pipe i guess.

i can say the mac ceramic headers are very nice great fit and gives a great look under the hood

i have magnaflow duals with an H pipe. If i get a set of headers they wont just bold up? i gotta get a "midpipe" too?
