Hello,
I am looking to purchase a few items from you. As the title implies, I have a few questions regarding the replacement of stock V6 parts with newtakeoff.com GT parts. I have a 2007 Ford Mustang S197 Convertible. Please let me know if the following are feasible.
This doesnt sound right to me. It seems like every other place I've looked at says that you CAN use these as replacement rotors. Maybe I should have informed this person I have 20" rims? Does that make a difference? Because this place says otherwise:
2005-09 MUSTANG V6 Front BRAKE UPGRADE KIT Part# M-2300-D Fits 2005-09 V6 Mustang. Upgrades Mustang V6 11.5" front rotors to the larger Mustang GT 12.4" rotors for increased stopping power. Uses existing calipers and brake pads. Easily installed, no bleeding required. Requires 17" or larger 2005-09 Mustang wheels such as M-1007-T178C for caliper clearance. Allows use of M-1007-S1885, M-1007-S1885B, and M-1007-S1885C 18" style wheels on Mustang V6.
I dont see anything in this "Kit" that serves as an adapter or vessel that allows these rotors to fit on the V6. Am I missing something? It's hard to ignore when it comes straight from the horse's mouth.
that's quite a bit of work for little gain in performance...if I where you Id just wait for your to wear out then save for the baer 14"ers.
but then again your looking at 3K.
I wasnt really looking for performance per se', that site has them at like $39.00/pair so I figured. "Why not? It's a cheap and quick upgrade on a part that is due for replacement pretty soon anyway". The only other resonably priced rotors I know of for the V6 are the Duralast brand sold at AutoZone. I heard those are decent, but the price is comparable to the GT take offs so naturally, I was going to opt for the GT's if I had the choice.
those will work very well^^...though for 39 bucks for the GT's yeah I can see why orders what he ordered.
only problem is now getting them to work...and yeah I dont think he can use the stock calipers...and the offset for the caliper mounts are off too due to the rotor size.

Well the simple answer to that is $39.99/pair<<<<<<<<$255.00/pair.
Like i said earlier, its not so much about performance for me, rather this vehicle is my daily driver. The parts will get worn, and obviously need replacing. This was more of a replacement/upgrade than a pure-performance/upgrade. (Did I make any sense with that?) Like, I'm not pulling my rotors in order to upgrade them, even though they are still good for another 30,000 miles. I'm pulling them because I feel like I've only got another 3,000 miles left. My tires were balding so I just went ahead and got new tires and rims. it wsant because I immediately needed to upgrade as soon as I bought the car.
Pretty much the same situation with me. It was cheap to do, and I was doing a bunch of other work at the same time so it was convenient.
And it is a decent upgrade for the street when you get good pads.
A lot of people that get drilled big brakes are getting them more for looks than performance anyway. The last 3 guys that talked to me about brakes said, "You should get some drilled rotors to show off your wheels!" I just smiled politely and said, "Oh, good idea."
And a lot of racers say don't get drilled rotors because they'll crack due to heat under hard racing conditions.
