Default 2005 V6 automatic idle problem

Last weekend I replaced the fuel filter for the second time (now at ~64,000 miles on the car.) The first time there were no issues at all, but after this time I am having an intermittent idle problem. The only time it seems to happen is after driving, if I put the car in park, the engine drops down to ~500 rpm, causing the car to shudder and feel like it's going to stall. It never does stall, and the rpms return to normal after a second, but this is annoying. It also never happens when the car is in gear.

When I was changing the fuel filter I disconnected the battery, so I'm not sure if this arose because of the new fuel filter (or getting air in the fuel line?) or the computer being reset. I disconnected the battery again yesterday to see if resetting the computer again would help but the problem is still there. Any ideas? The car was running perfectly before last weekend.

hmm, i had the same problem on my 85 3.8 before i ripped that out, i put in some seafoam and it seemed to do a pretty good job of correcting the problem. maybe its just somesort of carbon buildup somewhere? did you try checking your spark plugs?

you could also do the old computer reset trick. unhook the battery for about a 1/2 hour, then hook it back up and see if that correctes the problem.

It wouldn't hurt to throw in some Seafoam, I haven't done that since last winter. I did try resetting the computer that way but it didn't help. I may also try cleaning out the throttle body this weekend.

Maybe A TPS Sensor? That Could Do it...But Then I Guess It Would Do It Even When Your IN gear.....Do Our Computers Have A Set Idle While In Park? I Dont Think It Would Be A Problem In Fuel Line Cause THen You Would Have An Idle Problem Like That All The Time....Hmmn..Anyone Else Have Ideas?

yes our cars do have a set idle while in park. you can change the idle rpms with a handheld tuner. i would suggest replacing the spark plugs, especially if you have never done so.
