Default 2008 Cobalt SS Turbocharger -> 2005-2010 V6 Mustang?

hey guys, i hate to bring out another generic forced induction question, but i looked a little on the forums and couldn't get much help. a buddy of mine has an '08 cobalt ss which he turbo swapped at 5k miles. i can buy the old one off of him for a little less than a thousand. is there a company that sells turbo kits minus the turbos? for our cars? i know a lot of the '94-'04 v6 owners talk about doing junkyard turbos (getting a generic turbo from the junkyard and putting it on their v6) so generally this would be the same concept. just a bit more reliable parts. someone help me out here, is this doable?

Don't know about that, you might want to call Majestic Turbo or HPP Racing out in your area. They might be able to whip something up for you.

The Cobalt has a 2 liter and the turbo is way too small for a 4 liter...unless you run 2 of them...

you can buy pipeing separtly from almost any turbo manufacturer.

Not a bad idea twin turbo v-6 it will help you keep up with the GT's.

Another thing I forgot to mention is that the reason why turbo kits are not made without turbos is that the entire kit is designed to work with the specific turbo they provide in the kits. Now if you are having someone build a custom kit for you, you would be able to get away with it, but make sure that the turbo you have from the cobalt SS is the right one for your application.

haha the small turbo is why i picked it as a donor. i want a small turbo that spools up fast and gives me a lot of low end boost

Bolt on go a long way for gt's have you forgotten that as does nitrous. For every 6er that has bolt on there two GT with the same if not more that are faster becuase of all the people that get rid of there v-6 for a GT.

low end boost = supercharger = X CHARGER! 2 word for you my friend....do it! i love mine, i went to the track friday and only got one pass out of it(got beat on the braket). turned a 13.4 its got more i know it does, cuz i spun through the 60', still turning a 1.9, and trapped only 98mph. i bet i can run a 13.2, even a 1 if i can hook it up. intercooler, drag radials...ill be around high 12s...mayb even mids. it sounds BA, runs BA, and for being a 6er, its really BA.

i don't need low end boost though. i'm already spinning halfway through first on nitto 555's. a turbo would give me high end boost which is where i need it most. plus i'm looking at $1500 for everything on my turbo setup. x-charger is what 4500?

John, you got more experience than I do, so you may want to check out ebay. I was looking awhile back at head units for superchargers, and they are being sold very cheap! If you know for example what model fits the 4.0L then you can search for it specifically and get the head unit... and we're talkin 300-500 bucks. Most of these come with the pulleys too, so if youre a guy that knows what you are doin (and what parts to look for) you could piece one together by buying all the parts individually and super cheap... My knowledge and experience has prevented me from doing this though...

call a shop that does mostly tuning with superchargers and such. tell them what you want, ask for how much for an install, and what parts to bring them.

The twin scroll turbo from the Cobalt is WAY too small for your car. It just won't operate in the efficiency range for your car. You CAN build your own kit, just don't do it with that turbo. Not to mention that you can buy those turbos brand new at around that price that your friend is asking. I've picked them up for as low as $800 new from a local Saturn Dealer.
