Default Urgent: Mustang auto tranny mixed up

My transmission thinks neutral is drive and drive is drive as well. (neutral is works correctly if the car is off in neutral only). My reverse no longer works. I hit the gas in reverse, it goes to about 3000 rpms, the wheels show no motion and it seems as the car is like weak or stressed out or something.

HELP ASAP

already checked DTC codes, none found; even re-programmed the car, no change.

Like the above said, check your alignment with the tranny shift selection, not sure of the exact terms, but my '65 mustang did the same thing after a wreck that cracked the motor mounts and knocked everything back or something, but my Park, drive, and reverse were all neutral, but 2nd and 1st were still working right, lol.

Also, I had an 84 firebird that had a similar problem, and then it eventually acted like neutral through all gears until I found out my Catalytic converter was plugged. Weird, eh?

if it's an '09 it's under warranty. put your oem intake back on and reflash your car to stock and take it to the dealer.

pretty sure its your shift cable, stretched or out of adjustment.

With the S197, the automatic shifter has a flimsy plastic trim insert around the shifter handle itself. It can easily crack, especially if it is a little cold, with any kind of hard shift back into park. When mine did this, I had to have that trim piece replaced. Check the trim between the shifter handle and the dash. If it is cracked, this could likely be causing your problems. For me, Neutral was reverse, drive was neutral, and 3rd was drive.

Thanks to all of you all, I appreciate the responses

I am taking it to the dealer today. and yes it is under warranty plus i have a service package i bought with the car.

I actually don't have to put the stock parts in. The warranty is only void for those parts, like if my exhaust has a problem, they are not obligated to fix it, same with like the MAF sensor or CAI etc... they don't need a reflash, ive already had it serviced once before

btw.. i only have 6,500 miles on it

dang, that trans must have been built on a friday after lunch good thing you had warranty, that would have cost a bundle. i havent seen that scenario pop up on here since ive been on here, but with so many members we get to hear alot of problems that are pretty rare, and some pretty common. glad your fixed up
