Default Is there a sensor that controls shifting? What controls Automatic Transmissions??

I have determined my automatic transmission on my 06 Stang is in good shape, belts are not worn, everything's fine. But i still am having shifting issues.

When you put the car in Drive or even if you manually shift the car through 1,2,3 and D - it wont shift right.

A few days back it was the worst it's ever been, when going from 1st to 2nd it would pause a few seconds like it missed the gear and then slam into gear causing the car to lurch forward very hard - it did that all day long which scared the hell out of me.

What would cause it to delay shifting? Is there a sensor somewhere that's possible old and that controls the shifting? I'm lost and after calling Ford they dont even know!

There's all kinds of sensors in there, and everything is computer controlled.

For that kind of symptom, you should rule out simple stuff like low fluid level if you haven't already.

Beyond that, you probably have to have the dealer hook it up to their diagnositc equipment to read what's going on with the trans.

mr ugly speaks the truth its a bummer, but hes right about having it diagnosed at a dealer. i know youve checked everything that you can already. are you running a custom tune? the computer does control everything.

Nope, no custom tune as of yet. I was told to just run one and that'll fix my shifting issues but i would much rather figure out what's causing the shifting issues first, to prevent any unnecessary damage.

Guess it's off to the dealer I go!

BTW: Would re-setting the computer help anything? Not sure if i un-do the battery and hook her back up, by resetting it if that'll fix anything?
