I've been wanting to install 4.10s & traction-lok on my V6 auto for a little while now. Just found out that Steeda Canada is located 10 minutes away..I have the factory 7.5" rear end and don't want to upgrade to the 8.8". So i was thinking of purchasing these: Richmond 4.10 Ring & Pinion Set - For V6 w 7.5'' SFD7505 - Steeda.ca - $283.47
Most take-off 8.8" rear ends with built in 4.10s and t-loks are around $1,050 US which is $1,131.27 CAD. Add shipping + labour + tuning with that, and my final thought is HOLY CRAP! For me, this price difference of modifying the 7.5" opposed to buying a new 8.8" can be put towards labour.
My idea is basically to buy these parts and order the C&L CAI + 91 race tune from Bamachips incorporating these changes. Install gears, t-lok & CAI and run the tune before i start up the car.
I chose 4.10's over 3.73's because I do mostly city driving, however even if I hit the highway the speed limit here is 100 km/h (62 mph)..max i'll go without getting my car impounded is 120 km/h (75 mph). No real worries about losing any top end speed there.
Anybody see any problems with this idea? Will I need anything else? Quality of products? I know we have some serious gearheads here so I'll get proper answers

Here's one for $1030 CAD. Shipping will be a couple hundred bucks, true enough. However, labour is free since you install it yourself, and there is no tuning involved. I don't think it's even possible to tune for a heavier axle.
AM does free shipping within the US only. To Canada it adds up believe me I've tried AM. Prices you gave me are in USD, convert to CAD and add shipping, about the same. Plus, I gotta worry about UPS losing the stuff.
And, how will I run faster than GT's without a blower. Don't plan on getting one. I don't hit the track I don't even know if there is one around here. Most street speed limits are 50 - 80 km/h (31 - 50 mph). I live in a "high-end" suburb of Toronto. My area is mostly full of rich people with Asian ethnic backgrounds, and believe me all I see here is the big [H] with an unjustified muffler that the engine can't keep up with. Only the occassional HEMI or a GT. Those guys have never tried to race with me, we know we'll get our cars impounded on most streets if we go 50 km/h over posted limit. Only ricers try to come up at lights and rev. I've seen ONE Shelby here, ONE. In fact, I just got back for McDonalds and some guy in a Civic hatchback dared me at a green light, i'm all stock except a K&N filter + Cherrybomb Vortex exhaust. Turned O/D and TCS off and destroyed him by atleast 3 car lengths within 4 secs, had to brake cuz I got to my driveway, lol.
so yeah, for me..7.5" is the way to go. I just like to scare these ricers from light to light.
I really appreciate you guys putting down more options for me though. Definitely makes things more clear.
However, with my current idea..will I need anything else?
P.S - I don't do any major mechanical work myself, got a guy at a local Midas who has 4 Mustangs, only he does the work for me. Rake, how come you say I don't need a re-calibration/tune. Wouldn't going from 3.31 to 4.10 throw off the speedometer otherwise?

You need a re-call for shift points and RPMs I believe. I don't know if you have an auto or what, but I'd still get a tune just to be safe.
You MIGHT be able to keep up with a GT...
My friend has a GT with CAI, tune, 3.73s, and mufflers... And can beat a V6 with a supercharger on it.
It takes a bunch to reach that V8 level of performance, but you're getting closer every mod!
I am DEFINITELY not trying to smoke any GT's. I wouldn't mind being smoked by one at all...it's all in the family
i am already quicker than the rice cakes, but i just want that edge over the V6 Altimas and Maximas and what not. Never ran with those but hear they're quick. I ran with a G35 coupe, we ran the same, he couldn't pass me..that guy told me he has around 290 horses under there, I don't know the torque specs but has to be higher than mine. The body seems heavier though. These cars come with dual intakes and all this mr. roboto stuff from the factory..yet my stock Mustang keeps up. I just want a little something where I can blow smoke in their faces off the line. Just the japsss!
Believe me, where I'm at, the usual hangout spot for hot cars always has a huge lineup of Hondas to Infinitis. Then, in a separate corner you see the few Challengers, Mustangs, Chargers etc. A few of us American (Canadian?) car guys park together. The mopar guys respect Ford and we do it back.
Our cars do stand out though. I was at the movies with my girlfriend and her cousins, who did not know I drive an S197. we went out to the parking lot and they pointed at my car saying it looks hot. When I told them its mine they wanted a closer look. There were the usual G35's/350 or 250 whatever Z's..mine got the attention. Plus, the Legend Lime gloss helps! Beautiful cars man!
So I guess my prospective gearing setup is fine, I'm not missing anything.

intake exhaust tune and 4.10's will let you beat a stock s197 gt off the line but he'll pass you around 80mph (just in time to reach the trap at the 1/8 mile)
I Was Debating The Same Thing Weather To Go With A 7.5 Or An 8.8 And I Hear Our 7.5s Are Only Good Up To About 300 HP. If You Dont Think You Will Pass That Then Stay With The 7.5...If So Bump Up....But Also Think About The Peace Of Mind You Will Have With An 8.8 Up Your A** When You Stomping On It And Doing Burnouts Everywhere..You Know An 8.8 Will Put Up With The Abuse More Than A 7.5 Either Way You Know how You Drive, What You Want. And I Think You Already Know What You Want...Just Double Check To make Sure Its Right For You. Cause You Dont Want That Vibration To Be Your Rear End From Eatn Too Much Rice
John, do those 4.10's really pull that damn hard? Guess I'm gonna have to look into those... cuse I just got my Bamachips tune... but 1/2 tank of gas still =(

u guys have no idea how much i hate the 3.31's with the stock tune. half the time i get stuck in that 5th o/d gear and when i wanna get on it, it makes my exhaust purr like it should but slowwwwwwwwwly picks up, sometimes i just pull the shifter to 3, speed up and shift back to D. i dont know if this is healthy though.
just now i was getting on the highway and the on ramp was a big loop, finally got a straight road and gave it gas, it felt like i got an elephant in trailer hitched to me. took forever, and finally downshifts. i hate it.

the only thing you need to tune it for is to recalibrate your speedo for the new gear ratios. And newtakeoff is the way to go. i have seen tons of V6 guys upgrade to the 8.8 with lots of goodies like the T-lok already installed in it.

dude, just hit the O/D button on the side of the shifter. you'll go from 5th to 4th that way
