hi again everyone, another question from a newbie.I found a set of 2007 GT (manual trans) take off mufflers with cats ,and either long tubes or mid tubes (dont understand the differance) for $75 without the X-pipe.I dont want to install new headers, and im probly going to cut out the drivers side rear bumper myself. mine is a 2007 auto with the pony package.my question is how do i have the guy at the muffler shop install these? with a y split,a X , a H , single or both cats ,i dont under stand much about this.i want a low noticable deep tone, but not obnoxius.this is a daily driver.everyone here has been a big help, hope someday i can start answering more questions, and less asking. Thanks
gt takeoffs imo are perfect for daily driving. to stay legal you'll want both cats. and i would go with an x. an h really doesn't do anything because the 6's have an even firing order. don't worry if you wanna do a search for my posts a year ago they sound like yours. now it seems like i'm answering most of the questions. just make sure you tell him you want true duals, not a branch off the y-pipe.
thanks for the quick responses Will splitting the Y pipe & run to two mufflers OR making true duals with a x-pipe & both cats give me any drone or cracking/popping?
Seems i need to learn more about mufflers and computers, haha
I found the web site for the cutout template. If anyone needs this,go to http://pysales.com/inst/SFM68-bumper-cutout
Thanks again for the help,
This will give you a decent understanding of the anatomy what's underneath. Basically cut the Y pipe so that there are 2 pipes parallel to each other. Install the X pipe and then run the pipes back to the mufflers! Ford decided to go single exhaust on our v6's to save money i suppose, because there are 2 catalytic converters 1 for each side of the engine block...It's just marketing i suppose..

go for the x pipe, I did the same thing. I had the pipes cut just after the cats and had the x pipe welded in and I have the gt take offs. You get a nice growl thats not too annoying and theres no popping (so you wont sound like a ricer).
No no, what i meant was there are 2 exit pipes for each side of the engine block. 3 valves on one side exit to the headers, and 3 on the other side. So you got 2 pipes and 2 catalytics. What Ford did is Make those 2 pipes into 1 (AKA Y Pipe) to then be able to run the pipe straight back for single exhaust. Think about it... 2 pipes merging into 1 pipe of the same size. Not efficient.
