Default New question on Dual V6

I'm like a lot of V6 owners and planning duals, but went to my dealer today and looked at how they are installing it on their upgrade V6's.

They are not installing and "H" or an "X" but two OEM "Y" back to back, it seems like a simple install but I'm wondering if it's good and if it could cause any issue.

I have included a small PDF document to show you what I'm talking about.

Looking for your feedback.

looks like a single exhaust split instead of a true dual exhaust. Probably better to go after market installer instead of manufact.
With a true dual "H" instead of "Y"you'll get more horses, better sound from the mufflers and with an after market installer you'll probably save some bucks.

I have the Magnaflow cat back system for the v6 that goes ypipe to ypipe. I was thinking of going true duals but I dont want to pay for the custom work that is involved. I think true duals only gives you 1 or 2 HP gain.

Disagree on the sound being much better.

If I had to do it over again, I'd go with the double Y if it would retain the stock sound.

With duals (I have an H connection) and GT takeoffs, my car still sounds like a buzzy 6 cyl - Not the throaty growl I was looking for, and I even have a pair of glasspacks upstream of the mufflers to attenuate the noise.

I'm hoping to possibly replace the glasspacks with some resonators - it may be a way to quiet the buzz - something with baffles, I dunno.
Anyone with similar experience?

I have dual GT takeoffs set up on a reverse "Y" setup. They sound just fine, and based on dyno results, the power is right up there with similar cars setup with "H" or "X" system configurations

Sorry... but no matter what you do you're car will always sound like a 6 cylinder... it is physically impossible for a v6 to sound like a v8.. no matter what kind of muffler you put on..

That being said... the stock muffler is absolutely terrible both sound and performance-wise... Going to the dual GT take-off setup probably give a gain in the 10RWHP range... going to a H or X pipe will maybe give you 1 or 2 RWHP...

Fishingjts is right on the mark. There is absolutely nothing you can do to make your 4.0 mimic the sound of a V8. Admittedly not all mufflers are created equal and it's all pretty subjective. I tried a couple of aftermarket axlebacks before I decided on duals. When I made that decision, I went with all Ford parts - GT midpipe, GT mufflers and hangers mainly because they fit with no extra modification. The only fabrication was the H-pipe. The result is mean sounding V6. I love the sound but it will never be confused with a V8. So, find something YOU like and Rock ON!

100% agreed with the last two posts. A 6 will never sound exactly like an 8 due to the number of cylinders, firing order, etc.

The key is having a 6 cyl exhaust that sounds great, not trying to mimic an 8.

Default 4.0L dual sound

I went JBA headers, Hpipe And mufflers. The sound is ok, maybe better. There is more deepness. NOT like a v8 yet. There is also a bit of a drone to it. There is more HP, +28 just from CAI and exhaust. I think It will be there after the SC.

It sounds like you are heading in the right direction. As an intermediate mod, you may want to consider purchasing an XCAL SCT2, this will tie your current mods together and boost your HP and torque. My opinion, our 4.0 will never sound like a V8 - so what? If you have an S/C, it won't really matter how your car sounds as you'll be dusting V8's and leaving them in your wake. If I had an S/C, I'd want that V8 to know he's been beat by a V6 and know exactly what he's been beat by sounds like. Keep up the good work!!
