Default Cold air induction

Im 17 so im obviously knew with all this car stuff. i have a v6 and i have duel flowmasters on it. i am looking into cold air induction and i dont know if i want to spend the money. Questions: would it honestly make a noticable difference in sound? will i be able to see a difference in the performance? any intake suggestions that you have had successe with, keeping in mind im a 17 year old kid who doesnt have a whole lot of money with car payments and all..? oh yeah, any input on a pozy rear end? good/bad

MMR has a good cold air intake, and it makes for a deeper growl sound from the front. I like it because it sounds mean, but if your going to add a cold air I highly recommend a tuner. You could see 18-25 hp gain with a tuner+ cold air. Either way you will see some gain, and alot better engine sound. www.v6mustangstuff.com carries both.

Hope my oppinion is useful lol..

Hey. I'm 17 and in the same situation, these mods are taking forever with a minimum wage income

Go with the tuner, like they said. It will help solve a lot of problems with the car, like the bucking, and give same/more HP than a CAI. I'm working on my exterior first, but i'l definately be getting a tuner once I'm "done."

definately get a Tuner first, I got the X-Cal2. None tunable CAI doesn't yield that much difference without a tune. I know because I got the K&N Aircharger first, a little better than stock but could really feel the difference after the X-Cal2 (from Brenspeed). Tuner will eliminate the initial lag and yield better acceleration.

Go with a system requiring the tuner. It's a bigger investment than a non-tuner system but the dividends are well worth it.
The 'drive by wire' throttle feel is eliminated and the autos pick up much firmer shifting.
The non-tuner systems have to closely match up with the factory induction system diameters or you'll get a 'check engine light'.
With the tuner my bigger 77mm diameter system will add power ALL the way up with NO codes.
As your mods are added i.e...TB, exhaust, the bigger intake diameter will take FULL advantage. A 70 or 73 mm system will always have a limit.
I've got some great total peformance tunes for the V6 system from either SCT or Bama Chips.
Just switching to a better performance spark plug (NGK iridiums) will post + 3 hp when coupled to a bigger CAI / Tuner package.

The above is entirely correct. Go with a large bore quality intake that requires a tune. The intakes that don't require retuning the computer achive that by not changing the airflow characteristics much vs. the factory intake. Since they're not flowing much more air, they're not producing much more power either.

I highly recommend Bamachips for tuning. The owner, Doug, is a great guy, and one of the few tuners with extensive experience tweaking the 4.0L (he's been doing tuning on 4.0L rangers/explorers for years, including doing the tunes for Explorer Express' X-Charger Eaton supercharger kits. He seriously knows his stuff :thumbsup

Hey all,
Having worked with JP DeMolet before on my 2000 V6 (I lived in Virginia at the time), he does know his stuff and is easy to talk to. I just purchased my new V6 on Saturday and am looking to scrounge the cash for the tunable system. JP, how does this affect warranties?

Thanks,
Lee

my bad kj_cinci, i went to that site and the first think i saw was that the 05/06 system was like 540 dollars and that was out of my range of what i want to spend. so i didnt pay any attention to the rest of the site. i am going to go with system #10, without the tuner...once again i dont need to reflash right away, i can wait a while...correct?

The tuner is required.

With customers having to budget these packages I recommend getting the tuner first. Then add the CAI. I can email you my custom SCT tunes or you can purchase the BAMA CHIPS tunes at the time of purchasing the system. I include the SCT usb cable with the tuner to enable a quick easy download of any tunes.

This way you'll pick up all the ponies available. And future mods will all be enhanced.

My 05/06 V6 system posted the highest gains that Bama Chips has seen and this was on an auto, 87 tune !!

With a non-tuner system you would probably have to add the bigger throttle body to approach the gains with my combo, stock TB, and then ironically the aftermarket TB would be restricted with a non tuner system !!

I include the usb cable, and freight charge with the tuner purchase at the lowest allowable SCT price.

What he said. That is definitely the smart way to go.

Remember, mine will post the highest gains...w/tuner.

I'd be happy to match that previous post intakes' price for the system only, standard 'Stealth' model, DELIVERED !!

DON'T sacrafice ultimate gains. If you're going to do more future mods, as ALL of us do, even just exhaust, go with the tuner system. You'll know you have the best custom tunes from me or BAMA, and there is no tuner support charges from me in the future as your mods are added and you EXTRACT ALL the ponies!! I supply the sct cable and it's simply calling me for the next custom tune MATCHED to the upcoming mods.:thumbsup
