Default Magnaflow vs. Flowmaster Exhaust

I'm trying to settle on an axle-back aftermarket exhaust. Obviously I'd just like a little better sound (or I would have bought the V8), so performance is not an issue.

Anyone know where I can get a sound clip from the Flowmaster American Thunder series bolt-on kit? Is it a deeper sound than the Magnaflow?

Maybe it's just the speakers on my computer, but the sound files from Magnaflow are not very impressive (a bit high pitched maybe? I like the stock sound better). I don't want to spend $200 and have my car sound like the high school kid neighbor's honda civic with the little "putt-putt" muffler. You know the cars, you've seen them in your neighborhood. Some kid thinks if he buys a new muffler and puts stickers on his car, instead of having the lame economy car that his daddy bought him, he now has a "Import Tuner". I guess the stickers make the 85HP car go faster

Anyway, Flowmaster American Thunder... Better than a magnaflow? Perhaps you can send me in the direction of a sound file so I can compare? The fact that the Flowmaster is $80 cheaper and I have a wedding to pay for is a partial motivator.

I don't have any sound clips and i don't know what they would sound like on a sixer but I have Magnaflows on one car and American Thunders on the other. The Flowmasters are definitely a deeper, richer tone but the Magnaflows sound awesome at speed. The Flowmasters tend to go through a "drone zone" at 1800 to 2K rpm that the Magnaflows don't have. Both have a nice rumble at idle but the Flowmasters sound like a big block car whereas the Magnaflows are more like an old 289. As with everything - this is a personal taste issue and I like both my choices.

the single axle back Magnaflow is very quiet with almost no drone, but the dual Magnaflow Magnapacks are terrible from 1250-2000rpm......very irritating. I am looking to replace them asap.......

I had the maganflow single axle-back and replaced it with the MRT single axle-back... WOW!!! What a difference! Sound and performance-wise the MRT was much better! And cheaper! LOL!

For my full write up on the MRT axle-back, including pics, dyno sheets and vids go here: http://www.tammyandjohn.com/Mustang/...ng.htm#muffler

Default Flowmaster sounds nice

I just bolted my Flowmaster axle-back American Thunder exhaust on to my V6 and WOW it sounds amazing. The sound is deeper and richer then I expected. It sounds like a V8 and does a lot for the rear appearance of the vechile.

The installation was a little difficult as some of the bolts are blocked by the stock muffler and there is minimal arm room which made removal difficult. It can be done with out jacking up the car (i did it) although Flowmaster recommends it jacking it up.

Quick tip for installation. Attach the front (cloest to the tip) mounting bracket to the car first, it is damn near impossible to get a wrench in there after the muffler is in. Then slide the muffler hanger onto the mounting bracket, slide the exhaust inlet over the stock pipe, attach the remaining mounting brackets to the car as they are easier to get at when the muffler is in place, center, tighten and enjoy.

I will get my camcorder out and try and put a clip up in a couple of days.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I'll probably go with the flowmaster...Found a good deal on one online.

Thanks for the installation tip too, that will save me a bunch of time..

I had both on my car, and have sound clips from both on my web site.
