Default Transmission questions

In the 06 mustangs are the same automatic transmissions used in the 4.0 and GT?

Are the same standard transmissions used? I know the 4.0 has and external output shaft balancer. any other differences?

I know the ovious differences of both are the bell housing/ mating to the engine block?

After 2001 they started using the same tranny... I think they still do for the 2005+

For the automatics the 4.0 and GT get the same tranny with slight differences. The 4.0 gets a smaller input shaft, not as beefy clutch pack... but is basically the same tranny...

The manuals are completely different...

I heard that the V6 Trany was only safe up to about 350rwhp, while the GT was good through 450. Watcha think?

Autos are the same, manuals are different transmissions. See the Ford Mustang tech page, at Fordvehicles.com

http://www.fordvehicles.com/cars/mus...eatures/specs/

Suspension is different, base wheels are different, for my '06, the GT was longer and wider but only by fractions of an inch due, I believe, to the different bumpers.

Default V6 vs GT transmission.

V6 uses a Tremec T5
GT uses a Tremec 3650
the 3650 is a much higher capacity transmission and much quieter generally.
The T5 in my 05 V6 is noisy compared to the T-5's in the previous 88 and 90 5.0 that I've owned in the past.
Th 3650 in my 06 GT is quiet, shifts faster. I've considered trying to get one for the V6 if it would fit....

That's more a function of the 7.5" rear on the V6 vs the 8.8" rear on the GT.

That might be a good part of it... BUT.. my understanding while the V6 and GT automatics have the same model tranny there are some difference that make the V6 version less robust...

The input shaft on the V6 is smaller, which makes sense... I've also heard the clutch pack is not as beefy in the V6...

Now... when I was on the juice I was hitting my automatic with over 450RWTQ!!!! So I was pounding it pretty dang hard...
