I'm thinking about getting the K&N Cold air induction system but not sure if it's street legal in CA or how much better it is than a regular K&N intake system?? Also Do you guys know if it will void factory warranty?
First ask if it needs a tune, also ask if it comes with a CARB number for Cali, if it doesn't need a tune then all you have to do is swap it out when you take it in to the dealership.

The only legal CAI's in California are ones that use a fixed tune. Any CAI using a "user modifiable" tune will not pass smog. FRPP sells a CAI and a flash tuner that is CARB certified. Some of the others, WMS for example, that will run off the factory tune might pass depending on how anal the guy doing the visual inspection is.

K&N Typhoon system is legal in the state of California I have one I live in San Diego County california, if it were illegal you wouldn't be able to get said system from a store like Kregan and further more anyone who wishes to dispute this. This is also Mavrk_Mustang the forums took too long to reply to my request for a new password. The Kregan I purchased my CAI has the systems in plain sight in a corner of their store. BTW for those who wonder by this, ty for the info you were right the govenor no longer does anything and I'm getting every ounce of HP from my engine after it's being converted from HP to Torque then to RWHP and I am LOVING IT!!!
As for voiding the warranty I cannot say. But I do all the maintenance on my stang so I'm not too worried. BTW here's a pic of what the Typhoon system will look like in your V6

Did you tune for your intake? (with a tuner) If not, your speed and rpm limiters are same as stock. The intake did not change them.

It's not a question of whether it's sold in a store in CA, it can be for off road use = emissions illegal not for sale illegal.

Some of the K&N stuff isn’t CARB certified and won’t be legal in CA. Check their web site to be sure before laying down your money. Also, some Ford dealers sell CARB certified K&N inlets for installation in their service departments also.
My mustang is an 05 V6 and then I saw something about offroad usage. They ask about vehicle type and such so I'm not sure anymore, and actually the K&N Typhoon system doesn't need tuning it just boosts everything from the get go I can assure you that the S197 V6 has a hard time burning out stock, I'm doin it with ease the engine sounds louder so on so forth but taking into consideration I can tune it, I'm gonna have even more fun now. Just need to get a Dyno. Cause I was told it doesn't need tuning. Anyone know what the max PSI boost is for the Typhoon system for a V6? I might do that route. Just boost to max. I know the V6 can withstand 9 PSI max from most supercharger systems. I have no idea what max boost is for the Typhoon system.

Omg update lmao this is hilarious. I was driving from Escondido to my home town San Marcos today, and apperently I passed a motorcycle police officer and he noticed my engine didn't sound right for a V6 S197. so off Rancho Santa Fe's off ramp he pulled me over asked me what I was running under the hood. I told him a K&N Typhoon Cold air intake system. He asked me to pull into the AM PM that was just off to the right of the Off ramp and asked me to pop my hood for proof. I did so he looked at the system and said "go ahead and get back to what you were doing" So yea apperently the Typhoon system is legal in California for on road purposes. But a warning for us Cali residents... The state isn't giving individual cities their budgets for some reason, so if you have to modified your stang... MAKE SURE it's legal in Cali otherwise they can impound your car, writing tickets and impounding is how our cities will be making their budgets for the next few months maybe years. I got lucky on the Typhoon system, I didn't care I just wanted a cold air intake to kill my govenor. Also I mentioned the typhoon system just boosts from the moment it's installed in my last post, in a way I wasn't thinking clearly in a way I was. The Typhoon system is simply bolt on tech. It can be tuned or you can be satisfied with it's factory boost. This is why I got all excited in my previous post. But I still for the life of me can't find the max boost of the typhoon system if anyone has any info on this plz lemme know so I can tune and boost at the same time.
Dang this is actually kinda embarrassing. Umm the people down at Kragen told me the Typhoon system came preprogrammed. But I was thinking back today on the installing of my Typhoon system... And the only thing that is different is the filter and intake system. You're right I do need to tune, Because I have the same old air sensor, thereof nothing was changed in my onboard computer system. So I was thinking maybe go for 7 PSI does anyone know if the typhoon system can take a 7PSI boost?
