Default A cautionary tale on tire valve stem caps

I may be the only one who didn't know this, but in case I'm not...

One of the first pieces of bling I bought for The Dix last summer was a set of billet tire valve stem caps, polished. What I didn't know (it was explained to me by the Mustang expert at work last Friday) is that those aftermarket caps, mainly aluminum, do not play well at all chemically with the copper threads on the valve stem. I had a horrific time getting one of them off yesterday -- wound up being a double wrench affair, where it looked for a few moments like I was going to destroy or damage the stem. When it did finally come off, the threads were covered in this off-white powder. Corrosion.

Why were they being taken off? But of course...so that I could replace them with an even fancier set of designer caps (link below). But now I know: These things must be taken off every three months or so and cleaned, then hit with a little cleaner/lube like WD40. Or at least that's my plan...

Other comments/stories welcomed...

You don't check your tire pressure more often than every 3 months?

I have always put a small dab of grease on the threads of a fastener.Just so you don't end up busting a bolt off when your trying get it off.
