If by "true duals" we mean separate exhaust tracts from manifolds to tail pipes, possibly with an "H" or "X" window between them, true duals are relatively easy, and make the V6 sound better and look better.
I have seen statements by qualified experts who contend that power and economy effects of true duals are not in proportion to hassle and cost. That is to say, deciding on duals for a Ford 4.0L V6 is a cosmetic or aesthetic choice, not a performance one.
After a very satisfying year with a single exhaust, stock with a GT takeoff substituted for the stock muffler, Mr Bush sent me a nice check which I promptly spent on the FRPP dual exhaust conversion kit.
I'm very happy with it, it sounds and looks great, makes the V6 a much happier drive, every time I get in it. I liked the single GT takeoff; I almost love the duals.
My measurements at an eighth-mile drag strip, equalized conditions as best I could manage, show no appreciable improvement in performance.
Simple enough. If you like the sound and look of duals, get them. If you want a lot of performance increase in return for your dollar, look elsewhere. I'd guess if you want the sound and look of duals with less hassle and cost, a "Y-pipe" to dual mufflers at the back would get you close.
