Well went to the local speed shop in town, and stated how i'm looking on installing true duals on my 06 v6. Guy there stated to me "just go with the Y pipe, if you go true, you'll have to re-tune it, and then it most likely won't pass emissions, and also it's near impossible to install, you'll be saving 1000s of $ by going with a Y pipe"
and he then stated if he will not install a true dual system at his shop for me! i'm new to town and don't know of any shops in my area besides this one (K&G Speed Shop)
Now i've seen many people on here install true duals...is anything that this guy says true? Help me out please! thanks
Most people doing true duals are using long tube headers and hi flow or no cats, the rest are using Y, X or H pipes. You will have emissions inspection trouble with long tube headers in PA. True duals will reduce back pressure so it would be good to get a tune after the install to be sure your not running lean.
You do not have to retune if you go true duel exhaust so long as you stay CAT back. if you want a deeper sound on the 6 use an H pipe, the X pipe will make the sound level a little higher in frequency (more towards the ricer sound).
I had both mine and my wifes 06 V-6 dueled out. changing the CATS will make it tougher to pass emissions inspections.
Go duel and dont look back. Power and MPG increases. ( if you keep you foot out of it. lol)
So basically if i just go true duals w/h pipe, w/o headers (At this point) i should be good for inspection, and It won't cost me thousands of dollars like this guy claimed? i just want to make sure down the road i don't have a ton of headaches. thanks for the help guys

on the V6, wouldn't true dual mean having 2 cats instead of the factory one? i thought using the stock single cat with duals would mean using a y pipe, and so it wouldn't be true dual.

the cats are before the Y so there should be 2... well there should be 2 cats and 2 pre-cats...
The 06 V-6 comes with 2 Cats before the Y pipe. I had both of me 06 V-6 duel out. a True dual with h pipe. One was using the true H duel from JBA and the other one was a custom H pipe setup using GT take off mufflers. Y pipe was removed on both mustangs.
I ran into a guy at a show this weekend with true duals on his V6. He had it done by a muffler shop and believe it or not he was running Cherry Bombs. Man that thing sounded sweet. If you didn't know it you would have sworn it was a V8.

Yeah, I have heard the V6 with duals and it sounds unbelieveable. Ford should definitely make this an option for the 6. It sounds throaty and gets better mileage and power ferPete'ssake.
Somone on here changed their V6 muffler for a GT muffler and got something like 18 additional hp ON A DYNO! Look around here and you'll find their post and the link to the dyno page to see it yourself.
For track use, I am going to get the local muffler place bend me some stainless pipe to replace my mufflers on the GT. No additonal power but the crowd always likes the loud car
Im looking at dualing my V6. Have Airaid CAI, screamin damon and livewires. Looking at the Ford system they say have to go to higher octane gas. Im wondering why other than the performance increase it should give.

GO DUAL AND DONT LOOK BACK!!! WOW! WELL SAID!!! LOVING MY TRUE DUAL Exhausts!!~
i`m in the middle of mine right now. allready got the gt takeoff mufflers and my h pipe comes today. about 80.00 for the mufflers 330.00 for the stainless h pipe. that guy at your shop was not a good person for you to talk to. after you do it, you should go back there and tell him how awesome it is

I put true duals on mine.Had the muffler shop cut the Y off just after the Cats, made an H pipe and used the stock GT left side exhaust pipe along with GT takeoff mufflers. No smog worries and a very nice sound. The mustangcollective.com has a section on "how to's ,thats where I got the set up installed on mine.Dont know if its still there however.
