Hey guys im new to the site. I read another post about tranny noise from a brand new car. My 06 v6 5spd makes a purring kinda noise as well most apparent when idling in neutral with the clutch released, when you push the clutch in the noise goes away and comes back when you let the clutch out again. Anyways, I noticed this since day one and thought nothing of it. Now my car has approx. 500 miles on her and still makes the noise but has a new noise it didnt have before. Most apparent with the windows up so easier to hear. In fourth gear at approx. 1500 to 2000 rpm's there is a chattering like fluttering noise coming from the trans area when on the accelerator. The noise can't possibly be normal, anybody have any ideas about this. I dont know much about mustangs this is my first one. By the way if anybody has any questions about chrysler products I am a certified technician. Thanks in advance.
Hey, I had my shop forman at my dealer drive it with me and he suggested for the noise i was talking about being what somebody else on here suggested and that was me "lugging" the engine. because at higher revs it doesnt make this noise at all, and he got it to do it in 3rd gear as well by lugging it. I dont know this is all a new experience to me as this is my first 5spd car. but he also commented on the "purring type" noise being a possible throwout bearing. We also both felt that when taking off from a stop the clutch feels kinda notchy and makes a slight noise like the throwout bearing binding or the clutch disc a little warped or something. anyways i appreciate all your input in my questions. I have an appointment with my dealer coming up to have them check it out. Maybe i am over analyzing or trying to make something out of nothing when its normal operation? let me know what you think. Thanks.
Maybe it's been there from the start, but my three week old V6 with manual trans seems awful noisy from starts, sometimes in other gears as well. I had the horrifying vision of finding low or dry transmission sump. Are these things intermittently raspy/growly?

Hey 06SatinSilverV6!
Did you ever find out what this noise was? This sounds like the problem I'm having. Sounds like a throwout bearing binding or a disc warped or something and I can feel it in the shift and clutch pedal.
Dealer says they don't have a clue what it is, they don't seem to want to take the tranny off to look at anything.

no i never found out what its was, besides that the t5 is a piece of sh*t. hopefully it falls out while its still under warranty so i can get a new one. o and the dealer is no help cause they never wanna do sh*t and everyone else seems to have the same problem so i know its not just me. somebody else had posted awhile ago about a ford field service rep looking into a case just like this one but i never heard of anything coming out of it.

The T5 is built like a rock but it also grates like two stones rubbing together when you lug it.
You'll have to work hard to get it to fall apart. Good luck trying.
Try swapping out the auto trans fluid to Royal Purple. It helped reduce the noise in my T5.
The throw out bearing simply likes to whine with the clutch out in neutral. I dont know if there is an aftermarket brand that is quieter. If anyone has already replaced it with something better I have yet to read what it was they repalced it with. They will eventually post it I hope.
My wifes old '05 had the same issues. Had a Hurst shifter and the tranny was loud. Had it into the dealer a few times for it but was told Ford will not replace it because it's normal. Just prior to trading it on on her '08 GT I removed the Hurst and put the stock shifter back in. Quiet as a church mouse. I think because the stock shifter has a large rubber isolator built into the stick that's what made the stock one so quiet.

The fix for the loud Hurst Comp/Plus is to change the rear bushing on it.
The poly bushings that come with the Hurst are real hard and plasticky, while the stock ones are very gummy and soft. If you swap the rear bushing for the stock one you'll quiet the beast to stock level and still have awesome Hurstness.
I even swapped mine without removing the shifter assembly a second time.

absolutely i found that out too thats why i took my hurst out. on another note if you look at the b&m shorthrow it has that isolated shaft on it.

i swapped the rear bushing back to stock, no difference. i swapped the front one out for stock so now both are stock, no difference. i isolated between both of the handles with several different materials, no difference. i just gave up and took the damn thing out and the car actually shifts better. for all you doubters out there, take your hurst out and put the stock one back in and you'll be kickin yourself for takin it out in the first place.

I had a 1994 Explorer that done the same thing (noisey) from the time i drove it off the lot. At 36,000 it got Royal P. Traded it with 176000 miles and still going strong, and still a bit of noise.
