So basically long story short, after wrecking my civic (not my fault) I needed a car that I could get with the $19,000 from insurance. This ended up being a bone stock v6.
Now I don't mind the v6, but I would someday love to swap engines and perhaps put a custom built v8 under the hood with a s/c, etc...
What I want to know is would this be possible? Is there a major difference in the engine bays between the v8 and v6 chassis?
Thanks for any help.

But, I think you need to change more, probably trans and rear end.
You could just mod the V6, several people here have gotten some serious performance out of it.

With enough money you can. I think it would cost alot to do it though. I am pretty sure you would have to replace all the computers.
Wouldn't make much sence to do it without upgrading the rest of the drive train and suspension.
I don't think cost wise it would be worth it.

I think there's someone around here thats got an S/C s197 v6 that would smoke my GT...Dont count out a 6er...with forced induction you can make a lot happen. It would prolly be a cheaper route to take too.

Greg, the engine mounts and transmission mounting points would be what you'd need to research. My guess is the engine mounts would be the same, and the transmission mount would be a function of the transmission cross support which is removable and could be swapped for the appropriate piece if necessary. Putting a 4.6L V8 and transmission in your car should be relatively simple. Keep in mind that the rear end in the GT is different than that in the V6 so you'd need one of those too, as well as the appropriate drive shaft, possibly clutch mechanism, etc. and maybe the computer from the V8. Then consider that the value of the car would be zip as a trade-in since it's so modified. And the kicker is after all that you have basically a stock V8 Mustang less the body panels. Now if you were going to do something really far out like stick in a big block or ??? then at least you'd have something unique, but to just stick in the same engine you can buy the car with is kind of a waste of time, especially considering you still don't have the GT brakes (front) sway bars, grill, body panels, etc. If I were you, I'd just trade in your V6 for the V8 if that's what you want.
The other options is take all that money and mod the V6. You can beat the performance of a stock GT or even a modestly modified one for about the same cost and you have something more unique.

hehehehe... I have a Vortech on my S197 V6... low 13's all day... There is also the turbo option... Rygen has gone 12.4 with his turbo V6 automatic... he's on his way to 11's!!! WOOHOO!!! LOL!
If I were you, I'd just trade in your V6 for the V8 if that's what you want.
Exactly. The money you're going to sink into building the V6 you could have the GT. It would be different if you were attached to the sixer or something...
Ok thanks for all the advice guys. What I have heard/read is that both the v6/v8 are high compression motors, which means that either a s/c or turbo would damage the pistons and rings easily, or that you couldn't run enough boost to make the upgrade worthwhile.
Basically I don't really have the money right now, as I'm going through school, but I love the body of the s197. So I guess I'll see when the time comes on whether or not I supe up the v6, or trade in for a used v8.

While we do have high compession motors with hyper-pathetic pistons, you can still run forced induction... it's all about getting a good tune!
save your cash and mod the hell out of that car! CAI, cams, flash, S/C, Turbos, Nitros, full suspension upgrades, maybe a bodykit, suede intererior, Pimp my ride style TVs everywhere......... all for less than swapping engines
*not actual info, just bullshitting so no one get pissed and say i'm wrong
