Default Windows in the Cold

Was just wondering if anyone else had this problem? When it is cold out (frost all over car) sometimes I find it diffucult to open the car door and even more difficult to close it due to the fact that the window has to slide down slightly that split second before you open the door and it gets frozen at the top. The way they designed the windows I don't much care for because of this. Sure it looks good, but functionality in cold weather is poor. I guess it's not that big of a deal if I can just remember to crack my window slightly before getting out on cold days.

During the past winter, our temps easily got in the low teens,
I worked grave yard shift so my car sat out overnight freezing
all the windows. I can't recall one day where I had a problem with
them opening????.
Hopefully I won't this winter!

Default Windows in the Cold

Yeah, I have had my windows freeze over a couple times. It doesn't seem like that big of an issue. For the most part the window will attempt to go down, but the door will still open. I was worried about the same thing until it happened and seemed to be ok. It seems like the weatherstrip has a little bit of give to it to compensate for the window being frozen to it. Best of luck.

Default Is there a fix yet?????

I have this problem any time there is frost worth scraping on the car. Last year I was real good about storing the car for the winter. I had a few days this year when our daily driver was down and needed to use the Mustang. It was not snowing or anything, just frost from the condensation in the morning.
Anyway, I can open the door but closing it is a nightmare. You have to let the car warm up so the window track/weather strips will unfreeze. I did a search here and did not find it, but I know a lot of us had this issue. I remember the one suggestion was to push the window inward while trying to close it. That was fine if you were parking but near impossible if you were going to drive. The other is hold the power button down and try to put a little weight on the top of the window to free it from the ice.
It has happened a few times and made us late for work.
Has anybody found a fix besides moving to someplace warm? (pperin)

Of course the engineers at Ford should have checked with Chevy about this...it seems that the C6 Corvettes are also experiencing this problem, to.

My fear is that you'll either ruin the window (possibly upset its tracking) and/or ruin the hard plastic weatherstripping....either way, the guy who designed this must have lived in the tropics all himself.

Someone suggested that you take some silicone spray (put it on a cloth) and wipe the weatherstripping where the window touches and it may help when the window freezes.

Once again, poor design.

I just went through the heavy freeze that hit the south and midwest and spent a lot of time scrapping ice to get into my pony. Silicone did not work nor did one of the leading brands of windshield de-icer. The car was coated in ice 1/8 to 1/2 inch thick in places. The only option was to pop the trunk and pull out the ice scrapper and warm gloves and carefully get to work.

I have to give Ford the benefit of doubt and not declare their climatic testing sucks. Instead I'll credit Ford with a drop-down window design that freezes shut in icy weather to keep you from driving this slippery eel when there's ice on the road.

I had no where near the trouble opening the doors on the Crown Vic or Malibu when they iced over.
