Default Crackling/Backfire noise when shifting

Just curious if anyone has had this problem.....

Sometimes when I'm shifting from 1st to 2nd gear there will be a loud crackling type noise coming from under the car, almost like a backfire. I can't imagine this is normal but the car makes so many noises I'm not used to that I don't even know what normal is anymore. It only makes this noise every once in a while so it would be hard to duplicate it for the dealership. The car has already been in the dealer before for 18 days so I'm weary to have to bring it back there.

Any help is appreciated!

Does the sounds only happen when the engine is cold, like first thing in the morning?

Does the sound sound like dice rolling around in a tin can?

This is what I experience every morning. I wonder myself if this is normal or not.

My Japanese cars have never done this...hmmm.

Default Rattle?

Mines makes a rattling sort of noise when the engine is cold on the first 1 to 2 shift.

humm. The only thing I hear in my wifes v6 is a warbling sound at or around 45mph from the trans area...????
Check for a loose braket or heat shield which I found on the wifes awhile back...

Yeah it's only when I start up the car after it's been sitting for hours, and it doesn't do it all the time. It is sort of like a tin can type noise. Like someone bangs a stick against a tin can once real hard.

I took it to the dealer today and I wasn't able to replicate the noise for them and they didn't see anything wrong. I'll just take note of it and see if it gets any worse.

Thanks for the replies!

Default Tsb

There is a TSB about the exhaust hangers that attach to the transmission crossmember. Maybe that's it. Mine seem fine though...
