Ok guys my buddy wants to buy a 07 Cobalt SS.... I was wondering how close the race would be.... because all of my friends say the Cobalt will rip my Mustang a new one....both cars are bone stock btw.. just looking for everones input..thnx
Well the Cobalt has 205hp @5600 RPM amd 200lb ft of torque @ 4400RPM and weighs roughly 2600lbs.
Now the Mustang V6 is 210hp at 5250 and 240lbs ft of torque at 3500 RPM and weighs about 3300lbs without driver.
You should get him out of the hole, given you both can drive, the FWD will slow him a bit and your extra torque will get you moving quicker.
Sadly though, with the weight difference, stock to stock, he is goign to run you down in 2nd and pass you and beat you to 60.
Though... look how much nicer you car is over all.
I don't think he will rip you a new one, but should beat you (stock to stock) fairly soundly. Then again, his car is a 5-speed and he might not be able to launch or shift for sh!t.
Also as a side note, I am assuming he is getting a supercharged version (all above statements are based on this assumption). They do make an SS version with out the Supercharged engine. If he gets one sans blower... you will rip him a new one.

Exactly my point about not being able to drive for sh!t. Fell asleep at the line, got a horrible launch, V6 Torque pull out a lead too big to even think about catching... and he gives up.
Power to weight, Cobalt wins... but form a dig... as you can see, Torque wins.

You know what they say: "Horsepower sells cars, Torque wins races."
Unless he's supercharged, he might as well be a Honda Civic. Light-weight yes, powerful no. Even if he is supercharged, get yourself an intake/tune and a different muffler and his ass is grass; thats a fair 25-30 rwhp increase.

it'll all come down to his launch. The SS Supercharged has a lot of wheel hop when launching. The only way for them to combat this is launching at a lower RPM or getting torque dampeners. If he has a good launch, bye-bye, if it is sloppy, you should get him, but it would be close. I think they also took the LSD off of them in 2005.
Since he is in fact getting the getting the ss/sc version, I'm sorry to tell you that you won't have a chance in hell. Even if he's just a moderately skilled driver he's going to pull a few lengths on you be the time 60 comes around, and many more after that. It won't be pretty.
You ought to check 0-60 and 1/4 mile times for the stock versions of both cars, that'd be a hell of a lot more accurate than all this he-says, she-says.

since it's an unfair s/c vs. n/a race, even up the odds and make it fair.
go get a small loan, get an s/c and youll rip him a new a$$-O.
or get a 75 shot of nos for about $600. that'll even it up a little..
eitherway, your still in a stang and he's in a cavalier thats been revamped and renamed Cobalt...
statistically, 10 years from now your v6 will still be on the road. (unless you wreck it) his "disposable" cobalt will be sitting in a salvage somewhere or in a back alley collecting rats nests....
i was just checking that out on chevys site. 148 hp 2.2 n/a 205 hp 2.2 on s/c. wow a whole 57 hp gain from the s/c..... im impressed... weight and the fast revving up of the 4 banger are its only postive attributes.
i have to agree with gtnos...why wud u want a cavalier mockup...the stang will b there long after the cobomb is in a buyhere payhere lot ..
