Default 2007 Ford Mustang V6 Coupe, Tranny Noise Or Driveshaft?

Hey guys,

I've been looking at aluminum driveshafts and that sparked the possibility that maybe it's the driveshaft making all that thumping and such under my shifter. I've spent a lot of time under my car and checking it out, then test-driving it. It just seems to come more from where the shaft meets the tranny and on back than just around the tranny. I wonder if slipping a one-piece alum. shaft would solve this annoying problem?

It may help but I doubt if it would be the cure-all.

I suggest you have Ford determine the issue before changing anything. Your sig states you have an 07, so it is under warrantee, and I wouldn't be messing with something that will let Ford tell you "Too Bad Bud".

Also, the V6 shifter does have a lot of play in it. You might also have a loose bolt!

Totally agree! it's under warranty!

I'm pretty sure the v6 already has a single piece driveshaft . ..

I'm thinking it's a two-piece. Haha, don't worry, I'm not going to change out the driveshaft. I just passed it as an idea. Well, also, it was doing it when I had my old shifter in and it is still doing it with the hurst shifter in (I've checked and loctited bolts a bunch). It annoys the heck out of me, when I go home for a few days, it's going back into the dealership.

Good point... I'm out of the warranty frame of mind now.

There is a TSB for this problem ref # 08-8-5
2005-07 Mustang with 4.0l w/ manual trans
Transmission may exibit a rattle or knocking sound on light acceleration between 1800-2200 rpm around 45mph, it is most evident in 4th gear after engine/trans has reached operating temerature. It has been describe as a helicopter noise, similar to when you put playing card in bicycle spokes. The noise has no effect on vehicle performance or durability.

There is a revised flywheel to correct this issue.
If your vehicle's build date is before 12/4 06 then the clutch disc and pressure plate must also be replaced.
