Default Sticking with single exhaust

I'm looking to add some throat to my '07 V6, while doing as little surgery as possible. Is the GT muffler a direct replacement, i.e. can I just get a takeoff muffler from a GT and install it on my V6 without replacing pipes/hangers/etc or drilling my bumper?

Sorry for such a basic question, but the other threads I found discuss dual and other more elaborate exhaust upgrades.

Default single exhaust

I bought the gt takeoffs on E bay. I went with the single exhaust and loved the new sound. They say the v6 muffler is very restrictive, and there is an increase of about 5 hp with the gt muffler. After all the posts on this site and the feedback, I went to true duals with the h pipe. The cost was not much since I had both the gt take offs. Hope this helps.

from what I have been reading, here and elsewhere,Yes the single GT muffler is a simple bolt on.

You should be able to do the swap with no problem. Note that Ford redesigned the muffler hangers midway through the 07 production year to reduce costs. Check to ensure that you have two metal hangers with rubber bushing inserts.

What if it doesn't? I just took delivery of the car a few weeks ago, and it has a production date of May 2007. So at least without looking, I'm pretty sure it will have the redesigned muffler hangers.

If the muffler is a direct replacement, shouldn't it be able to use the same hanger(s)?

If not, you can purchase aftermarket hangers from http://www.pysales.com/iwwida.pvx?;i...0%201?comp=ppe. Check first as I'm not 100% sure if the redesign applied to the V6. It may have only been for the GT.

I had the GT muffler installed this morning. It sounds great.

It gets _extremely_ hot, and I noticed a bit of smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe for a few minutes after I drove it home from the service shop. Is this normal?

exhaust coming out from an exhaust pype? this is madness jk. It should be normal and will probably go away in a few days, just burning all of the junk off after the install. Just give it a little time.

If you want to speed up the "curing" process, drive at freeway speeds for a few minutes, then use a gear or two lower than usual for a while on surface streets. The high RPM, low airspeed will cool the exhaust pipes and muffler less, and burn off manufacturing and storage chemicals faster.

In the language of the Text Message generation, 1x exh ftw.

Thanx all for the info and help. Yes I know engine exhaust is hot , but these V6's seem to run extraordinarily hot. After a moderately long drive I get a faint burnt smell in the garage, the hood portion over the radiator is almost too hot to touch. Etc. I've not run into this on any other car I've had.

Just out of curiosity will my next mod (CAI/tune) make this worse, better or neither?
