Default Warranty And Modifications On 2007 Mustang V6 Models

Hey -

I'm a brand new owner of a real black beauty -- a 2007 V6 convertible. Wanted a Mustang all of my life; life is good.

I've jumped the gun a bit and ordered intake and exhaust modification systems, plus a performance chip, all from K&N. The gossip and inside dope appear to be very favorable re K&N, so the warranty question is the only issue remaining.

Any thoughts on warranty voiding? How to avoid the void? Check with Ford service first? Suggestions?

Yes, I'm green; but do I love this car!!!

Thanks for your input.

Welcome... Many schools of thought on the warranty impact. Some dealers will let anything slide while others will give you a hassle over anything. Technically, according to Magnuson-Moss, a failure has to be tied to an aftermarket component in order to void the warranty on that specific item. Axleback exhaust won't void anything, nor should a CAI. Custom tuning of the PCM can be an issue with some dealers.

Make friends with your dealership !! Let them know you plan to do all your scheduled service there. Especially if they are a family owned dealership....they are not likely to give you a hard time. Plus if they do all the service on your car they will know the car, which helps a great deal should you need warranty work done.

Its my understanding on the exhaust that it only voids the exhaust warranty , the chip may be a different thing , they usually won't bust you for an air filter.
