I prefer single exhaust so I used only 1 of the 2 mufflers in the kit. Still, $90 is better than $365 FordRacing wants FOR THE EXACT SAME PART.
It was a direct replacement -- no hanger changes, pipe changes etc were required.
Not much difference from the original muffler in throat noise at idle, but when you step on it there's an obvious difference in sound and responsiveness.
OK what is a good aftermarket muffler for the V6 that will free up some horses and not be TOO loud or break the bank?
The GT mufflers work good. I chose the M-5230 GTA because it is 50-state legal, a bit quieter, and I got a pair including 4" chrome rolled tips for $130 shipping included. It gives a nice low, solid sound, relatively quiet at cruise, bellows a bit at WOT. Nice bit of kit.
So, I wonder how many left-side GT mufflers are lying around out there in garages across America. Someone should invent a use for them, or go into the business of converting the hangers to right-side appropriate. Make a fortune.
I still have the two big ol' chrome tips, too. My style is darken the bright bits, so I painted the muffler and standard tip with black caliper paint. It smoked and stunk for a while, but cured to a nice semi-flat finish that seems to be holding up OK.
I'm not sure how you'd avoid drilling a V6 bumper to accomodate 4" (or even 3.5") tips. On the 3" stock GT muffler tips (with stock hangers) there's less than 1/4" clearance to the bumper cover.

Wow... Where did you find a pair of those for $130. Ebay???

Keerect!
They came wrapped in two pink bath towels and a box loaded with styrofoam peanuts. When I started up the engine after installation, it blew pellets all over the yard - floop. floop, floop ...
I still wonder if Mrs EbaySeller missed her towels.
I have a left side GT muffler in the garage, but I'm planning on using it in the future. I got the GT bumper AND both mufflers (including bumper and right muffler installation) for $300. (I also drove away that day with 4 brand new bullitts and Pirelli tires installed for $400 -- it was a good day).
There is quite a difference even with just the single muffler swapped for the GT one.

So it just swaps out with the exisitng muffler? That's great. Is the response more power or just throat?
