Lately I notice that when I hit my Recirc button (or pick MAX A/C) that my air goes to about zero blowing on the "1" postion of the fan. I turn off the Recirc button on regular A/C it blows a lot harder in the same fan position. No DTC codes (I got an XCAL 2). Could it be my Cabin Air Filter (CAF) is clogged? Owner's guide says it is under the cowl grille right in front of the windshield on passenger side so it looks like I can just unscrew and remove the cowl grille to get to it? Is that pretty easy to do? It says to replace the CAF at 15K and I am just about there. Anyone have this problem and is the CAF the fix or is there something else I should check?
OK thanksI pulled the CAF and it looks good so now I have NO idea why the fan runs much lighter on "recirc" in the "1" fan position than when it not on Recirc. Shouldn't MAX A/C with Recirc blow just as hard as regular a/c without recirc on? I think it used to. I don't get it.

Max with recirc should blow much harder than regular a/c with or without recirc on. Let me go check mine to be sure.
First of all are you driving or parked when you notice this?
If your driving and have the control panel set to anything other than receirc or off you will get forced ventilation into the cabin.
If your driving and and have the fan speed switch set to "1" and then select MAX AC or recirc you close off forced air into the cabin and may very well feel a decrease in airflow as it relies on the blower at the low setting.
If your parked and go from outside air to recirculation (or MAX AC) then you should notice a small increase in airflow and sound with the fan set at "1" becaue you arent having to draw in outside air through the ducting and filter.

On an unrelated note, we have ongoing problems with dead skunks on our local roads. So I tried adding a thin activated charcoal prefilter to my Mustang's filter cartridge, cut to size from these:
One 3-pack is enough to make six prefilters for the Mustang.
It fits fine between Ford's filter and housing, has virtually eliminated the skunk (and all other) odors, and has an added benefit of keeping the main filter from junking up as fast. I haven't noticed any reduction in airflow from the prefilter.
Just be sure to put your wipers up into the 12 o'clock position, first. Otherwise as you're pulling the cowling up (just enough to remove and replace the cabin air filter) the edge of the cowling close to the center will rub against the wiper blade arm and cause some minor damage to the plastic cowling.
