so i am considering getting a t-lok soon and i was wondering if i could get a second opinion about getting new gears since im already gonna get at the shop.
[keep in mind that i drive alot on the highway.]
1) should i just get the t-lok and not worry about the gears?
well i went with 3.73 and a ford racing t-lok havent got them installed yet but 3.73 is for 0-60 pulls well if your on the highway alot i say go for the tloc and 4.10's for highway gears i got my tloc from ford racing and gears company are Motive Performace Plus And i got them from
all and all either gear you get its gonna be a mager diffrence...
And To Be Honest Just a Tloc I think is not relly worth it..
yea my local shop is doing the install for me for $250 for everything..
let me know what route you went with.. L8er

The v6 mustang comes stock with 3.31 gears and an open differential (no limited slip or posi) as you know. If you're going with a gear upgrade and don't want to destroy your highway mileage I suggest either 3.73's or staying with the stock 3.31's. 4.10's are also a popular choice but will decrease your gas mileage more than 3.73's.
The limited slip differential will help you keep power to both wheels in the rain, which is where I tend to have traction issues with my rear wheels in my v6. The again, some might consider me to have a slightly heavier foot than average.
Ford Racing or FRPP (Ford Racing Performance Parts) is very popular for the limited slip diff. and Motive Gears and FRPP Gears are popular choices for upgrade gears. Motives are pretty generic while FRPP gears will cost you $100 more than Motives. Bear in mind the old saying "You get what you pay for."
And make sure you find an experienced shop that knows what their doing; a bad gear install can end up costing a lot of time and money, neither of which grow on trees.

If you want those extra balls during launch, but dont want to sacrifice too much MPG, go with the 3.73's. I understand that you're confused because of the conflicting answers you got from Sixbanger and I, but lets think about this logically...
If the mustang comes stock with 3.31 gears, and moving up to 3.73's will increase your off-the-line performance and decrease your gas mileage, doesn't it make sense that 4.10's would increase your off-the-line performance and decrease your gas mileage even more than the 3.73's? Its a very simple concept to grasp; the higher your gears go, the better punch you'll have at take-off and the more your gas mileage will decline.
Higher gears will also take off from your top speed, but most of us aren't interested in driving 150mph on a daily basis.

one more thing before this thread dies though,
i have heard that the cap thing<that probably sound like an idiot) on the rear end is flimsy and should be replaced.
should i also do that when i go to get them installed?
I think you're talking about the differential cover. I haven't heard of it being flimsy or having any problems that should merit it being replaced. fishingjts has put over 300rwhp through his and I believe he still has the stock differential cover.

alright, so i got two different answers from you guys.
which is better for hwy driving/mpg
3.73 or 4.10
i still want to have some peformance at the stop light, but i dont want to sacrifice the highway driving
3.73's are better. I would not go 4.10 unless you are using it for racing.
I have 3.31's in my V6 and 3.55 in my GT and there is a difference and have to shift to 2nd sooner then with the 3.55's.
If you use 4.10, you will hardly use first, meaning as soon as you star off the line you will be switching to 2nd, a if you are on the highway, driving in 5th it will feel like you are in 4th looking for a next gear.

It's fine... Runs around 2800 at 75 mph. Gas mileage difference between the 4.10s and 4.30s wasn't much.
As for the diff cover. The aftermarket covers provide better bearing end cap support. Important as you increase hp/tq.
Wow.
That's a big difference over the 3.31s.
Around 3000 RPM = 100 MPH with stock gears.
