Smile Can a V6 Mustang Bama Chips combo pass smog in CA?

I'm getting ready to put a little more "pep" in my V6 and am wondering if I add a Bama cold air intake w/ a tune (91/87/89 octane), will the car pass smog in California?

Not entirely sure.... If in doubt, put the stock airbox back in and return to the stock tune prior to the test.

I would take Stlwagon's advice and do your smog check with the stock intake and program.

Saleen Inc., was recently fined $700,000 by the California Air Resouce Board modifying and selling 2004-2005 Focus and 2005 Mustangs that failed to meet emmisions requirements in the state.

I would play it safe and assume all programs have the same issues until the vendor verifies to you that their product, installed on your car, is CARB compliant.

you can always go to the Test Only places cause a lot of them have "pass or you dont pay". That way you run it with the tune and want not, and if it doesn't pass revert back to stock.

Thanks. I'll remeber that when the time comes to check the car. Also, Bama Chips got a hold of me and told me to return the car to stock calibration and it should pass. Thanks to all.

Whether its a chip or a programmed tune your statement can be true if you dont purchase it from a reputable vendor. You should expect possible problems if you purchase it second hand or from some fly-by-night vendor.

In many cases someone simply didnt install it correctly or make other needed mods to gain the full benefit of the tune.

By the way, welcome to the group.
