Question V6 Mustang dual exhaust conversion questions

alright so i spent a few hours reading through the posts here about the dual conversion for the v6. Awesome info btw. how ever there is a question that I would like to ask.

In reguards to the stock y pipe removal and using the drivers side gt mid pipe. is the mid pipe for the gt and the v6 the same diam.?

Where have you guys found the Flowmaster AT mufflers online, or in your respective cities and for how much just so I have a range to work with. (Of all the pipes I have heard sound clips of I would have to say they sound the best with the H pipe, pype's and magnaflow just sound to...ricey to me).

I did see a few posts about take offs from the GT's has anyone done this, I have found a few on ebay for 700 including shipping and that is the front and rear with side skirts and exhuast

I am going to be purchasing a new mustang by the end of the year so i am trying to knock out as much research as i can without hanging around a dealership.

But anyway Hello guy I look forward to learning alot and putting many miles on the mustang once i get here in the driveway

I have both mid pipes from the gt but haven't got them on yet. The v6 and Gt both run 2 1/2" pipe I belive. You need to buy a driver side hanger for the second muffler. I am going to just strait pipe it no X no H no Y. I have been doing a lot of research on this my self and if I don't like it after a little while I will get an h pipe or something but for now thats the way I want to go.

Default stock h-pipe/y-pipe

I have a 2005 V-6. The stock y-pipe is smaller diameter than the stock h-pipe. Good news is this means you can slip the GT h-pipe over the V-6 y-pipe. There's a little difference in spacing, but not much- a fraction of an inch. Beware though that the exhaust hangers are in a different place (at least they were for me- I have a manual transmission and I don't remeber what type of tranny the car the H-pipe came off of had.) I ended up cutting the y-pipe after the hangers and the h-pipe before the hangers and it all worked out fine for me.

I was leaning toward the ninosport convertion, anyone know how that sounds with the take off mufflers.

Also when you dothe conversion do you have to get both right and left side mid pipes off of a gt?

Also withteh gt h pipe wouldnt the larger diamiter cause a loss of preasure in the system?

I think you're confusing midpipe with overaxle pipe. There's only one midpipe (x or h) but two overaxle pipes.

I think Pypes calls the overaxle pipes "midpipes." You will need a driver side overaxle (or midpipe) pipe and the crossover pipe (x or H). To tell you the truth, loss in pressure is not that big of a worry.

Alright, so axle over pipes. So to do the conversion this is what (as I understand) needs to be done

Removal of the stock y pipe after the cats
purchase a gt over the axle drivers side pipe
drivers side exhaust hangers
custom H or X pipe or purchase a prefabed mid pipe

The mid pipe will need to be welded, correct? though the over axle pipes should just clamp to the mid pipe then install the muffler of choice.

To do it close to stock you need the left GT "over-axle" pipe, a clamp to clamp the H or X to it (the other side gets reused,) an H or X, one set of muffler hangers and GT mufflers. The GT mufflers have the clamp on them. You could weld the new H to the Y or use strap clamps. Welding would be more rigid.

You could honestly have your exhaust guy just make you the overaxle pipe for probably cheaper if anything. My guy did it for free but maybe I just got lucky.

I used Pypes performance exhaust pieces to do mine. Turned out great. That list you have should pretty much do it.

Every one I talk to says the "over axle" pipes are mid pipes. SO I call them mid pipes. I got mine from a guy here in town for a case of beer, other than getting it for free I can't see it being much cheeper than that.

I am going to strait pipe it or get the shop to make an h pipe. What ever they are ok with doing. My flowmasters just came as mufflers no hangers or anything. I asked around and was told its just a rod that the shop has and uses. I bought tips for the mufflers. They have to be cut down and welded on cuz they are 13" long. As well the outlet of the muffler is 2 1/2" and the start of the tip is also 2 1/2 "
